 | Beware the Bollywood pranksters! Filmmaking is serious business. Even so, all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, remember? And so pranksters like Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgan turn the atmosphere, on the sets, all fun and games with their treasure trove of never-ending practical jokes. On April Fool's Day, rediff.com thought it appropriate to list instances when stars made bakras out of their colleagues. We start with Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan, who make quite a hit team on screen. Both their films together -- Heyy Babyy and Bhool Bhulaiyaa hit the jackpot. Ditto for the Khiladi's super-successful prank on the gullible actress. During the making of Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Akki discovered Vidya's mobile phone unattended. He grabbed this perfect opportunity to send a mischievous, not-so-nice SMS to the dance director. The latter gave a stinging reply, which irked the Parineeta beauty no end. She gave the poor choreographer a dressing down, only to later realise this was Akki's idea of a joke. Beware the Bollywood pranksters! Abhishek Bachchan takes the title of Bluffmaster quite seriously. A large number of co-stars have been at the receiving end of his pranks. The petite Tara Sharma, his love interest in Om Jai Jagadish, being one of them. Once, when Tara was summoned for a shot by director Anupam Kher, to her horror she discovered the door refused to open. Evidently, a certain Bunty (of Babli fame) had locked the door from outside. Her relentless banging fell on deaf ears before Bachchan Jr decided to take mercy on the hapless damsel-in-distress. | Beware the Bollywood pranksters! He is notoriously naughty. Aamir Khan loves to play a fast one on every heroine he has worked with. Many years ago, in a television interview, his co-star of Parampara and Andaz Apna, Raveena Tandon playfully recalled how Aamir would spit on people's palm under the pretext of reading it. It was payback time when the Mast Mast girl ganged up with director Rajkumar Santoshi to give the actor turned filmmaker a dose of his own funny medicine. The two made him believe the shoot has been extended and he has to stay back. The perfectionist he is, Aamir began to work on his scenes only to, eventually, discover the camera wasn't rolling. | Beware the Bollywood pranksters! Taking a break from his morbid role in Zinda, remake of the South Korean flick, Oldboy, Sanjay Dutt played bizarre pranks on the sets in Bangkok. He would carry a batch of creepy-crawlies like bugs and locusts in his pocket and insist on unit members having a bite. Luckily, leading Lara Dutta was spared of this ewww-some ordeal. | Beware the Bollywood pranksters! He loves to don different avatars on screen. Off it, Vivek Oberoi simply loves to try out new pranks. In an interview to rediff.com, the Shootout At Lokhandwala star narrates one such instance, 'We did a four day-four night schedule in Mahabaleshwar [a hill station in Maharashtra] for Dum. The atmosphere was relatively relaxed and we had an off next day. I decided kal chutti hai (tomorrow is a holiday), so tonight we have to have a wild time. 'I took a watchman's torchlight and covered my head with a shawl. I went from room to room making ghostly sounds. Then I caught hold of the watchman, and asked, 'Did you guys hear something?' 'I spread some rumours: 'Fifteen years ago, someone died here. His spirit is still here.' 'The whole unit was awake all night. And they all had stories to tell. Once I triggered their imagination, they were all like, 'Haan maine bhi dekha (I saw it too)'. All the guys in the unit started talking.' Need we say more? | Beware the Bollywood pranksters! He may be seriousness personified on reel. But Ajay Devgan's on-set tomfoolery is rather famous. Apparently while shooting for Prakash Jha's Apharan, on location in Satara, Maharashtra, he concocted bhaang with sweets and distributed it within the unit. The hilarity that ensued can only be imagined. | |
