Missing is one thing and sneering at the land and the people who welcomed you is something else.

Plenty of people like him in that generation and even the next one!

In fact many are worse also... they would probably force Simran to marry Kuljeet even after everything that happened...

Simran’s dad was redeemed in the end by the fact that he saw the error of his ways... unfortunately some traditional desi parents wouldn’t do that no matter what🤦🏽‍♀️.

I agree about the suddenly moving away to India but though, that would never be so easy!

Of course there are people like that. I've seen plenty in my own circle.

I've also seen plenty who mock the land they came from. Not talking about refugees and the like who are actually escaping tyranny.

Doesn't make either group right. Remember your roots and also show some gratitude to your adopted nation!

Also he was a bad father....what kind of father would just marry off his daughter who has grown up in London...has no idea about India...that also a little village somewhere..never met her would be husband before....(I hate these idiots who make a promise to marry off their kids as soon as they are born....to one of their friend's kid}....and he expected her to stay there her whole life and adjust....Pita ji they ya jallad???😳

That is why don't look for logic in a BW movie...just enjoy...😆

Yeah the whole idea was that he was meant to have been a not so good father till he realises his mistake in the end...

And yes it’s totally illogical and harsh but there were many desi parents in England who used to do exactly what Simran’s dad wanted to do... especially in the kind of 70s-90s sort of time (rather than more recently)...

Forced marriages were a huge issue in Asian communities here till relatively recently... almost as bad as some towns or villages in the subcontinent!

It’s only since 00s that dating, finding your own partners who don’t necessarily share your caste, religion, race etc has gone fully mainstream and non taboo in most Asian communities here... and there are still a sizeable number of older people and super religious types who would disapprove for sure!

Yes exactly, and unfortunately greedy types back home sometimes take advantage and use their children for green card/citizenship and either treat them horribly or leave them once they get what they wanted (like Kuljeet in DDLJ wanted to)...

My parents used to know of a girl who’s family got her married with a guy from Hyderabad and as soon as he managed to get citizenship here he divorced her for some white girl...

But that is just one case, and there are also many many cases where marriage between people raised abroad and people raised in India work out very well...

At the end of the day the important thing is finding a good person, their character and values should be looked at before the country they were born in!
