Chapter 29: Home For Now

I dropped her home.

"Go, take rest." I nodded at her. Her dadi took her up towards her room. The police had called and informed them about the whole incident.

"And you wanted her to marry the man who was involved in her kidnapping." Aditya Singh taunted his son.

"Thank you for helping her. You and your friends almost put your life at risk for her. I'm really thankful." Her dadi said when she returned. I smiled at her.

"It is alright. I would always be there for her." I told her. Aditya Singh walked me to my Audi.

"Can I ask you something?" I asked him. He nodded. "What games are these? Why are you playing her like this? I'm aware that your handover is already set. You've given it up to Jodha then why put up this whole thing about having to find a man?"

"My little Jodha was my pride. She was my bright diamond. She was always happy and loud. The girl knew what she wanted and would never let anyone force her into anything. She was a lively child. True, she had lots on her plate due to her father's obsession but still you could see the light in her. The trouble between her parents wasn't hidded from them. It started as small arguments and turned into full blown fights. Jodha made her own transition through that. Her own parents' situation affected her. Slowly growing silent. She stopped telling what she wanted and what she didn't. The sadness seeping into her skin that her parents would fight all the time. That's what made her mellow. The cheerful self of her was gone. She had grown silent. Like giving up hope that she could express her feelings to anyone in the family. With her mother gone, she grew distant. Wordlessly going with things." He said. His eyes held a soft feeling as he remembered his grandchild as a little girl. "When she was young, I had decided that she'd be my heir. She was perfectly built as a leader. Confident, determined, ready to fight for what she knew was right and stubborn. She was smart, intelligent and loud."

"She's still not much different." I tried to tell him. I knew the truth that she had changed quite a bit. He chuckled.

"I had given up on her every being normal. That was until I saw her laughing and being lively again for once. We were in Agra for a wedding. The smile on her face was so beautiful. Her friends told me later that she was laughing about playing a prank on some boy. In that moment, she was perfectly my beautiful grandchild that I remembered her as. As soon as her father came back to the scene, she was once again the silent girl who had grown detached." He explained. "A few years later, I found out that the boy she had pranked them was you. She didn't remember it but I couldn't forget it."

"I still don't understand what this is about." I asked. He smiled.

"I know her. After years of work, she had built herself for the company. That is all she had in her life. Nothing else. She would care for this company if she felt it was going into ruins. So, hoping that somehow she'll grow back into that girl I had decided as my successor. It backfired when I found that she was with Vikrant. Instead of challenging the decision, she decided to play in the game. That's when I had Darshan make sure that you and your family would come to party. Initially you all had no plan to come but then at Darshan's insistance, you all came in. Rest is natural." He explained. I looked at him.

"Natural? Why did you think Jodha and I would definitely come together? Jodha had made it clear in earlier that she didn't have interest in me." I asked.

"It is meant to be that Heer would always end up with her Ranjha. It is meant to be." He answered.

"So, if I ask you that I want to marry her, you'll give us your blessing?"

He patted my shoulder.

"Yes but my son would want to say no. Convincing him is a big thing." He winked at me.

"Wouldn't you support me?"

"He is my son. I'm going to go outright against him. If Jodha says something then so be it. I'm not going to play tricks to make him say yes. Jodha will have to convince him herself. Her father had taken up her mellow-ness and made her into doing what he wants. At a point, she will have to stand up for herself. It may take a while but she'll have to bring back up herself. That's why I have done this whole thing. My son has to learn that you can't cage a lioness for long, at a point they will roar and scare you. Just because you've brought the lioness up doesn't mean she's going to be a cat with you. I suggest you too let her deal with that. Loving someone and wanting to be with them is all good and great but one also has to be something independent on their own." He then walked back inside. I smiled and laughed when I got back into the car.

He knew both of us. He knew who she was even before she did. Even before I did.

I sat in the car and drove back home.

"Seems like you've been spending quite some time away." I heard the teasing. I turned around and saw my parents in the kitchen. Both of them making some food.

"Abbu! Ammi! When did you two come back?" I asked, hugging them both.

"How are you?" Ammi asked.

"Hundred percent perfect." I answered. She then hit me on my head.

"How can you so recklessly drive and get yourself involved in a car crash? I keep telling you to drive slowly but boy hardly has mind to listen to me." She started scolding me. Abbu just laughed. When Ammi looked at him, he looked at me disappointingly.

"She's right." He said to me. I laughed when Ammi threw a box at him.

"You're the one encouraging him to do all that." She told him.

"Me? You think I tell him to speed up while driving?" Abbu looked scandalous. I broke into laughter.

"Shut up and look at the sandwich filling. You'll burn them."

"I definitely have nothing to in his over speeding issue."

"You drive so fast and that's what he caught."

"In my defense, I never got into a crash, so don't say it is my fault."

"You mean to say that it is an excuse to drive fast?"

"Of course not. You're right." He then turned to me. "Jalal, don't drive so fast, alright? You have done so wrong."

Ammi glared at both of us.

"You two will have me dead with worry."

"Trust me. It changes from 'you will have me dead with cuteness' to this a few years into marriage. So, don't get married."

Ammi hit him again.

"What nonsense? You think this marriage is bothersome?"

"When did I say that? I just said that he could stay happier not worrying about if his wife still loves him or not after few years into marriage with the commentry men get from their wives after marriage."

He started laughing when Ammi put her hands on her hips. I started laughing too.

"Ammi, isn't it true. He would have to worry about whether you love him or not because you're so pretty that everyone will fall in love with you. Abbu isn't going to have anyone else." I told Ammi. She smiled at me.

28 years into their marriage and still they were in so much love. Like it was just an year ago that they were married. People say that with age, the romance dies out. I'd show them my parents. They've wanted both Samaira and me to have just as happy of a marriage.

I wish that Jodha and I can have a similar life filled with happiness. I could see myself with her in my future. She was the one I would want to live with.

"How did you end up getting injured like this, though? Still the ones from the car crash?" Abbu asked. I told them all that happened. Both of them were almost worried.

"Is she fine now? Almost terrible. She's such a lovely girl. It is almost worrisome that the man she considered was good was involved in something this terrible. I mean it has to have limits." She said.

Chapter 30: Plans

"Wow, Jodha. You look really pretty." Dadi said as I walked down the stairs. I smiled.

"Thanks, dadi. Waise, I'll probably get a little late today." I told dadi. She smiled at me. Red top with ruffled sleeves, black and white checkered chanel skirt with knee length heels. I left my hair open. I was quite happy.

"Take care. Don't get into any trouble." Dadi said. I nodded. I started to walk out. I saw Jalal outside. He was on his phone. I walked up towards him. He looked and saw me. I smiled at him. He put his phone back and grinned.

"You look gorgeous." He said and opened the car door for me. Black trousers and black buttoned up shirt. As such the buttons were undone till his mid chest. He looked really handsome. I had to say this. He had a wonderful dressing sense. He knew exactly what to wear so he'll look super handsome.

He sat in the car and we started off towards the restaurant.

I kept having hope that Jalal would come to save me. He would know I'm in trouble. Mostly, I had an underlying fear that someone will try to hurt us or something. Yet, I knew that while Jalal is there with me, I'll be safe.

I never understood the fear before considering I was always sheltered by my father. That moment, alone with Atif had scared me so much that I would have started crying. Only the faith that Jalal is going to find me. He's going to find my phone and get to me kept me going.

I soon noted that we were off towards a different location.

"Where are we going?" I asked him. He winked at me.

"I have a special something planned for you." He told me. Soon, he stopped the car. We got out of the car. It was somewhere in open fields. He offered me his hand. I took his hand. He led me. The moment, the scene unfurled before me, I was shocked. I couldn't believe it.

"Hot air balloon?" I asked him. He winked at me. He held my hand and took me ahead. We sat in the hot air balloon and I noted that all of dinner was set ready. I sat and he lit the fire in the balloon so it took up.

"You can steer it?" I asked him.

"Well, I've noted the wind flow from meteorological department. As such I have connected a trigger to GPS. I've set the coordinated to a certain location. As we near the coordinated, the trigger will reduce the fire and we'll land. That part is already done and checked. So, it is like semi-automated." He explained while he lit the candles on the table. He put up the dishes and plates. Sweet corn soup, paneer masala, butter naan and rasmalai.

I should admit, it was the perfect package. Hot air balloon ride, candle-light dinner, my favorite dishes, wine and Jalal. It couldn't get perfect.

"It is amazing." I told him.

"I'm glad you like it." He grinned. I looked around and it was such a beautiful scene. The moon shining perfectly in the sky. The soft brushes of dark blue and black in the sky. Right there before me was Jalal. His face had a pretty smile. I recognized it. He was thinking of some memory. Probably the first time he confessed.

We had our dinner.

Soon, I felt the hot air balloon land. I looked out and noted that it was a private area. The balloon landed. Jalal helped me out. It was their private land. There was an artificial underground cave with a lake created there. A large gaping hole in middle of the cave over the center of the lake. A glass bridge over the lake. When we entered the cave, it was decorated flowers and fairy lights. I possibly had never seen so many flowers. The beauty of it was so enchanting. We walked to the middle of the bridge. I just stood surprised. I turned around to look at him.

Khud ko hum jitna nahi samajhte hai, utna hum aapko chahte hai." He confessed. I felt my heartbeat rise. "Considering I never got to ask you last time, this time, I want to ask you." He got on his knee.

"Jalal..." The fireworks went up in the sky and it was raining rose petals.

"Will you marry me?" He asked. I wrapped my arms around him.

"Yes.." I answered. He smiled. He pulled out a box. A red diamond ring.

"I'm not sure if you remember but it is the same ring I gave you when I married you." He said. I was surprised. How did they still have it? It is almost impossible, this is like an antique.

"How did you even manage to get it?" I asked him.

"Well, it has been in the family for a long time." He answered. "Last time I was also the king of an empire but this time, I'm all yours. Nothing to keep us apart. This time, I promise that no matter what problems come up, I'll not leave you. I promise to stay with you till my soul lives in this universe. I hope that every time I'm born, I remember you and your love."

He made me wear the ring. I hugged him. I wouldn't have ever been the kind of person to marry someone I had known only for a few months but Jalal... Jalal had been my soulmate for ages. Being with him just simply felt like I knew I was home and safe. No matter how terrifying the situation, he'll be there with me. The moment I call him, he'll come for me.

He held my hands. I leaned in and kissed him.

It was the most beautiful feeling. Those soft assuring kisses which feel like rain after years of drought. There were no words to explain how it felt to stand next to him. It felt like I knew I would be alright. He then rested his forehead against mine.

"You don't know how long I wanted to make you mine again. I never had much memories of you in my childhood but since the moment I saw you again, it came all of the sudden to me like a rush. It felt like floods and I was just drowning in them. Your laughter, your smile, the way I feel standing next to you. Even all the years didn't ease the intense feeling I hold your hand. Like I would instantly burst out into flames." He said.

For a moment I felt bad for not remembering earlier. But only for a moment.

"Heer..." He shouted. I slipped from the horse and fell right into his arms. I looked at him. Our eyes locked with each other.

"Great. You can't even get on the horse easily and want to have a horseriding race with me." He teased me. I gave him a look.

"Once in a while we all slip. You don't have to rub it in my face." I huffed. I climbed back up on the horse. He leaned against the horse and looked at me. I smiled at the way he looked at me. "Nazarein lada rahe hai, huzoor. Sambhaliye khud ko. Kahin haar na jaaye."

"Dil haar chuke hai, jaan, chunoti kya hai uske saamne. Abhi jeete yaa haarien, dil toh aap hi ke paas hai humara. Aapki muskaan mil jaaye toh haar bhi jeet si hai." He answered. I laughed. I got off the horse.

"Dil ki baat kar rahe hai, Shehenshah-e-hind... Hume toh yaad nahi aapne kab hume apna dil diya hai." I teased him. He pulled me inside the stable and pushed me against the wall of the stable.

"Itna bhi zulm na kare. Saare jahan ko chod kar aapko diya hai."

"Abh zaroori toh nahi ki sabh yaad rahe. Ho sakta hai ki hum bhool gaye ho."

"Hum chahe toh bhool jana, sanam, par humari mohobbat ko na bhulana. Kabhi khud ko aapke saamne laaye toh pehle aapko humara ishq hi yaad aaye, bas itna hi toh maang rahe hai. Konsi jannat maang li aapse."

"Mushkil hai, Shehenshah. Abh kabhi humare saath koi haadsa ho jaaye aur sabh bhul jaaye toh kya kar sakte hai?"

"Waise toh aap hi se seekha hai. Mohobbat dil mein hoti hai abh uska yaaddash se kya waasta? Dil ko mehsooh ho ki aap humare liye kitni keemti hai aur humare aate hi aapko khushi ho toh bas yahi kaafi hai. Yeh saari yaadien jo hum aapke saath kaate woh yaad ho ya na ho, usse hume koi fark nahi padta. Bas humara pyaar dil mein rakh lena."

I smiled at him.

I was more surprised when we went back to the farmhouse. Everyone was there. Both of our families and friends. Samaira instantly hugged me.

"I'm so happy." She exclaimed excitedly. Everyone looked happy. When mny eyes fell on dad, he didn't look much pleased. I walked to him and both of us were in a corner.

"So, you've decided to marry him?" Dad said dryly.

"Dad, what is exactly the problem? Why don't you like him? Is that we are from different religions?" I asked. It can't be that. Dad isn't even that religious.

"I just don't like him and I know you will not be happy." He answered.

"How dad? How do you know I won't be happy with him? We both love each other, we're both financially stable and we're both mature enough." We both have already lived together once.

"Because he is not my choice." He commented. I brushed my hand through my hair and chuckled dryly.

"Your choice was Vikrant who had gone as far to kidnap me." I pointed out. "Dad, I'm not a little girl anymore. The life I have to live is going to be mine. I have to live with your choice. How does that suit who I am? You and I are not the same person, dad. We don't have similarities. You already made one huge decision that has harmed our company. That was also your choice. How should I leave you with my life decision then? Who is to say that I will not suffer?"

"I know you, Jodha."

"Actually, you don't. You only know what you have taught me. You only know about me what you wished me to know about me. I told you what I liked based on what I know you want me to like, it was never my own choice. Please don't take away my right to decide, dad. I respect you a lot because you're my father but this decision. I will take on my own."
