Yup!! I felt the same, i mentioned it somewhere also. He never felt this helpless even when he married Bondita.

That was a much worse situation. Like he literally lost the chance to be with Mini ever. There he had cried for one day in sharab ka nasha bass. And seeing Mini's letter also, but there he didn't look this helpless or agonised. Here he is literally crying like a baby and hoping that Bondita hears him somehow.

I think Mini was never that important in his life as much as he says. They never spent that much time together also. He just felt he loves her. So, when they got suddenly separated he was moping over Mini. But if he did love her so much, he would have been happy to get an opportunity to marry her. But he isn't happy, rather he hates the idea now. Now that he is getting chance to narry her he is realizing he doesn't want it anymore

But here he just have the coconut shell, but a lot of emotions and memories with it. He lost a companion who used to listen him and understand him.

And also yes, if he considered Bon as just Responsibility, he wouldn't feel this much regret in Marrying Mini. Because for him society doesn't matter and thus no problem with People calling her second wife. But he says that if second wife comes, first wife feels dejected and also second wife will feel bad meaning he cannot give Mini the place of first wife, Bon!!

Haina, his reaction to mini doesn't seem he was worried about mini infact he looked irked . His wordings of dignity was intended to bon not mini..!

That dropping off the doll has more unsaid meaning..! Couldn't get it though

One is maybe Ani dropped the doll listening to the samaj torture which mini was saying to him...he unintentionally remembered bon and maybe she is alone to handle this problem

Another angle can be doll slipped off from his hands i.e bon has slipped off from him for time being.
