Isn't that the whole point of this song? Them playing caricatures of people from different backgrounds? Is it right to single out only the blackface?
Agreed.......one has to look at the intention....there was no intention here to disrespect the blacks in anyway....they were just dressing us as different types of people and acting silly...they did with the Black get up too......I found the one in HumTum disrespectful though.

Why are you shocked? No one hates black people more than desi people.
Not more than east asians (chinese, japanese etc) where blackface is considered normal
Hmmm ... there are two sides to this arguments.
#Side 1: Not all portrayals of blackface are racially motivated.
The song is clearly about Fardeen and Kareena seeing themselves in different avatars depending on the surroundings.
It would be weird for them to show Fardeen and Kareena seeing themselves in different characters, and then seeing actual black people who don't look like them ... but pretend that they look like them.
#Side 2: Whether the portrayal was reasonable.
You can argue that they could have avoided putting in black people to avoid this issue to begin with, and the counter would be Side 1: not all portrayals of blackface are racial stereotypes.
Look at the portrayal and the acting of the "black" versions of Kareena and Fardeen. They are exaggerated and stereotypical.
#Concluding Thoughts:
My opinion is that Blackface is never okay - even if it isn't racially motivated. Intent does not matter. You can have the best intentions of the world, but coloring your face to represent another person's culture is not okay. This could have easily been avoided by removing or replacing the black people and it wouldn't have changed anything.
I don't believe that part was done with racial motives though (doesn't change my opinion, but still something to say).
exactly. and there are many movies where actors wear blond wig and pretend as white. is that ok ?
Blackface and Brownface have roots in racism. That's why it's not okay.
You're getting at wearing wigs and pretending to be white, but just for an apples to apples comparison, I'm going to interpret this as "whiteface".
Whiteface doesn't share the same racial/stereotypical roots as Black/Brownface. It was used as comedic purpose and it still is. That's why Whiteface is okay.
I think intent plays a significant role in Whiteface though. If a black person colors his face white and overly exaggerates white people, that would be just as bad as blackface. But whiteface, as it is typically used, is not considered bad.

This is completely disrespectful to the black community. Megyn Kelly lost her job because she said putting on a black face wasn't disrepectful. For once, Desis need to sit their ***es down. We literally have a caste system to keep people down. And racism runs deep in the brown community. If it weren't for African Americans fighting civil rights, Desis's wouldn't even surive the treatment African Americans have received. Also, I must say, Desi's are also some of the worst offenders.
Don't get what's wrong with blackface? Here's why it's so offensive.

I didn't find it disrespectful......because the intention to disrespect was not there....

a white is a white. a black is a black. people need to understand that and stop discriminating. this is one of the way of treating all equal. imagine they are doing caricature of all race except black. don't you think that will amount to further racism ?
