Yesterday I saw this image of Akbar and Atifa and Jodha watching from a distance on Instagram, and thought of Writing this Os hope you like it.
Duty bound
I had seen her from the corner of my eyes as Atifa came to wipe my sweat after my sword practice. She was coming to give me aarti and prasad. The shock and pain in her eyes were just too much to bare. But I kept smiling. It gave me the creeps to let this Atifa female come near me but I was duty bound to catch the conspirators who were conspiring against me to usper my throne. I saw a drop of tear trickle down her eyes onto the aarti thal. It tore into my heart but I was helpless. Aatifa came near me smiling and wept my sweat. I saw Jodha turn and go. I knew I was being watched all the time. I could feel someone's eyes on me. I wondered who it was.
I was feeling restless. I had not seen Jodha after that, I felt really worried for her as I knew she was pregnant, what I was doing was harmful for my children but what could I do. I got up and went to the window and saw that there she was sitting in the angoori bag. Moti was trying to console her, at a distance I could hear Khyber was screaming in the dungeons. Jodha looked towards the dungeons Moti stopped her. I shook my head her soft heart would be the death of me one day. I turned away from the window. Eid was coming near, me and Jodha begum were supposed to give out eidi to my subjects. But the situation was different. A baandi came asking “ Sahanshah what has to be done about tthe eidi.” “ Me and Jodha begum were supposed to give out eidi, why dont you ask her" I said. Just as the baandhi was about to go Jodha came “ All the preparations have been done, and everyone has been instructed.” She said in a cold voice. Then she turned to go I couldn’t control myself “ Jodha begum” I called. But she didn’t responded. She stopped for a moment, I could she the change in her body language. But then she went away.
After sometime I followed I couldn’t stop myself. Saw her entering my Ammijaan’s prayer room where everyone was gathered for prayer. I went upto the room and stood outside. I slowly moved the curtain and saw her. She could feel my presence as usual. She looked up at me, our eyes met. It was magic. But I looked away then pretended to be looking for Salima begum. I called her and asked about Rahim who was not keeping well. Then I went away.
I felt very restless. Sleep was evading me since the day this Atifa had come. My blissfully happy life had turned into a nightmare. I knew I was making everyone angry. I was paceing in my hozra. At last I just couldn’t bare it anymore, I slowly got out of the room. I looked arround for sign of anyone being arround. Seeing no one I proceeded to Jodha’s chamber. I asked the gaurds to be quite, and went in softly. It was dark in the room Jodha’s kanha’s diya was burning spreading soft light around the area. I looked at the bed where she was sleeping. I went up to the bed and moved the curtain and looked at her. She looked like an angle, yes she was my angle. I sat down next to her. I noticed that her pillow was wet. Tears rolled down my eyes I knew she must have cried herself to sleep. I softly caressed her hair. A soft smile played on her lips. “ I'm sorry sweet heart, I wish I could do something to ease your pain but I’m helpless. I know you are hurting because of me, but there is no other option to catch the culprits. You are not the only one hurting even I am hurting. I miss you so much you have no idea. But what can I do.” He told her as she slept. He softly placed a kiss on her forehead. Then got up and looked at her, being an emperor is not easy. A lot of sacrifices are to be given. Being away from his love was becoming difficult. Seeing the mother of his child cry herself to sleep was painful. But he was duty bound. He would get hold of the culprits soon and the day he does that he will take his Jodha in his arms and never let her. The prospect of haveing her in his arms again was the strength that kept him going. Soon very soon.
