I've heard some people say that actresses in their 30's cannot be that successful. But I think all that is changing, and age is just a number. If Khans can rule in their 50's, why can't actresses in their 30's? we need to let go of such age-old notions and embrace the fact that if an actress looks good and is talented and has maintained herself, she has every chance to succeed.

Let's face it, today actresses in their 30's are more successful than actresses in their 20's, The ONLY actress who is successful in her 20's is Alia, rest top 5 are above 30, some reaching 40 like Kareena.

Not only that, actresses in 40's are also doing great work like Rani, Tabu, and Vidya.

In Hollywood, actresses continue to be successful even in their 40's and 50's, especially if they are talented like Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock. Why can't the same be in BW?

@bold, that's because no one from Alia's generation survived, apart from Shraddha who age wise is not from her generation but debuted a bit late.

If Actors can why cant actresses ? Its not anyone's fault. But all actresses box office ratios get worse as years pass on . (thats not chauvinism talking its literally the trajectory that happens) 😆 Actors do also but they have a bit longer shelf life (again its just what it is) 😆

Yes Kareena managed to make some hits but she had low points and had to turn things around.

Even your fave Deepika is seeing bad times now. Can one of her upcoming films do well ? Sure but that wouldnt erase Chappaqua or XXXXX 😆

A lot of actresses are in their 30s..as our movies deviate from the traditional college wala love stories, more and more actresses can find work well into their 30s...web series have also extended their so called 'shelf life'.. We need more mature looking actress to play the roles of corporate executives, self made businesswomen, academicians and so on..

Overall the world population IS ageing... so older population has to be acknowledged. People's prime age is now shifting. The good old 20's is not the prime now.... It's the 30's -40's... like how it is in the western countries. Actresses will get that chance in the future, provided they are willing to stop making innumerable cosmetic surgeries to look 20's and accept their natural age 😆

Putting aside all the sexism and aunty insults, it is because Bollywood is nowhere near Hollywood or even other movie industries around the world when it comes to diverseness of genres. Look at the top 10 movies from any recent bollywood years and chances are in 90% of them the leading lady's role was to play the love interest of the male lead. There aren't enough movies that tell stories that are not romance, and the handful non-romantic movies we do get are all so male centric that there is very little space for women.

That speaks to there not being enough roles for women, not the age women must be for those roles. In two of AK's upcoming movies his leading ladies are 25 and 23 years old. 28 and 30 years younger than him. It's ridiculous.

I think it depends. Even in Hollywood a Meryl Streep or Sandra Bullock or Helen Mirren who is 70+ has far more longevity. They were not known for their looks.

Angelina Jolie or Julia Roberts are still there, but nowhere near their prime-but Angelina was almost like a hero-always strong roles. I haven't seen Julia in anything big.

Sridevi, Madhuri, Madhubala , meena Kumari, Rekha had spectacular careers. Madhubala did Mughal E Azam in her late 30s if I am not mistaken?? Rekha had a long career. Dimple ha da decent comeback and Sridevi quit on her own-was not forced out.

So it is not like Bollywood was always like this, Umrao Jann, Mother India , Mughal E Azam and a ton of other strong women character movies were all released. The current crop honestly does not have that caliber actresses-IMHO.

I can't imagine Alia carry off a Umrao Jaan -Aishwarya's portrayal was horrible. Kangana is good in playing fiery, angry, crazy characters-basically playing herself, so not acting-but doesn't have the breadth.

Lots of them had screen presence-Zeenat Aman, hema Malini, Vyjantimala, Dimple-can you imagine Bobby without Dimple or Qurbani without Zeenat- Raakhee, lot sof strong women who could potray deep emotions and had depth. Not much now-maybe they come from privildeged backgrounds-grow up in bandra/Juhu and that is their world.

Heck -Helen did her yeh mera dil at 40 years old!!

It actually benefits the khans, Akki, Ajay too . I mean the likes of Kareena, Katrina can be casted opposite them and not be frowned upon compared to them romancing Sara or Ananya
