Even Padmavati had Deepika on every poster and the surprise was in the movie itself. They sold the movie on Deepika’s back. Why? If the movie was Ranveer’s show?

With BV it would have been Ranveer/Anushka? How does that work?

When dp signed ramleela she had just done cocktail, she had not had her big hits like yjhd and chennai express, so he didn't sign her thinking the movie will be a hit solely on her name. Ranveer and deepika were equally part of the promotions of ramleela and they had equal screen space in the film, this again shows he wasnt selling the film just on her name

Deepika was still bigger than Ranveer and my point was that SLB never sold any of his movie solely on Ranveer. If he had chosen a newcomer to cast opposite Ranveer then you can say he had faith in him but he first chose Bebo who was already huge then Deepika who was (even if his fans refuse to admit it) a bigger sensation than Ranveer ever was.

Funny enough you didn’t mention how he exploited Deepika for Padmavati when she wasn’t the main

But yet he continues to get cast in big budget movies despite a serie of flops...he has proven NOT to be as bankable as people thought but he gets roles.

Agreed, fantastic interview.

Watching the clip again, anurag said these are two experiances where his own production rejected Ranveer, so he is saying Phantom Films said no to having Ranveer in BV. He says 'my studio did not believe in me', so anurag's own studio said no to having Ranveer in the film even though anurag is one of the producers aswell
