Have you seen me defending what the Maharashtra goverment is doing? Now multiply what is happening there by 100 and that's what the rest of the country is going through. If one has to ask what fascism then one has obviously not looked at what has happened in the past six years. Professors, activists, student leaders, doctors getting arrested for merely voicing their opinion against an act that is not in sync with the very fabric of this nation and our constitution. Minorities are being lynched left, right and centre. Look at where India ranks when it comes to media freedom. These are just a few examples of what fascism looks like.

The opposition right now is by far the weakest in the history of Independent India. And a good opposition always helps the country keep a good balance by keeping the Government on its toes.

@Bold — That was what Modi said. He won the 2nd term by landslide margin, he could not have had opposition but he said democracy needs opposition so ruling party can always perform better.

But the opposition has turned out to be such an embarrassment.

Law and order issues in the guise of minority lynching; raising slogans for breaking india, calling to kill kafirs (Hindus), misrepresenting the swastika as the hakkencruz; rioting and destroying public property, talking about imaginary laws, protesting a very humane law..and then playing victim card, minority card.. yea yea.. fascism.

Well.. I disagree with every single thing U have said. But will just focus on the term media freedom.

The media in this country has gone rogue and is misusing all the freedom its getting.. And I so wish it loses this freedom if it doesnt stop with the misuse

Just wondering which sections of the media do you think have been allowed to go rogue? Because I agree there indeed is a certain section, I'm just guessing our views on which section it is might be very different....lol.

Press freedom matters. There's a reason why it is referred as to as the fourth pillar of democracy. Unfortunately we are living in times where TRPs matter above everything else, where propaganda is believed over what is the ground reality, where screaming on the top of your lungs and not letting others speak is referred to as "journalism".
