Yeah she actually was for a brief period time. She was getting all the offers but was dumb enough to reject most of them. On top of the obsession of trying to outdo Katrina in item numbers😆

Kareena got a lot of chances to prove herself, and even then she mainly found Hits in her filmography by doing flower pot roles in movies of male Superstars. I don't agree that she was number one even for brief period after Jab We Met.

Just one movie can't catapult you to the top position, especially when you have years of Flops before that. Jab We Met itself wasn't a big Hit. Yes, her performance was praised and Geet became an iconic character but the same happened with Kangana after Queen. Still that movie didn't make her number one.

Kareena was never the top actress in her career, only one of the top, and her track record in 2000s is real embarrassing. Lots of Flops with few Hits here and there. She's the perfect example of a PR made star, who always managed to stay in news because of her offscreen antics and tantrums.

She was no 1 from 2007 - 2011 (Jab we met , Golmaal Return, 3 Idiots, Golaam 3, Ra.one, Bodyguard ) Why do you always underrates her?

I think the very fact that she never became the numero uno is the main reason why she managed to survive and sustain her career for so long.

When you are number 1 -- which inclues consistent hit films, critical appreciation, popularity etc -- people get bored of you in a while. When the media overexposes anyone all the time, the audience gets bored of them after a while, and they disappear. Case in point: Rani was like the number one 3 years in a row (2004-2006), and very close to the number one in the other years. Audience eventually got bored of her and then forgot her in an instant. Vidya also had a similar phase from 2009-2012 where everyone was going gaga over her -- and then suddenly ppl lost interest and she fizzled out (for the most part).

Kareena on the other hand never had this numero uno crown so people never got thoroughly sick of her. When you peak high, you also fall very low (like Rani/Preity). On the other hand, when you have a decent regime like Kareena, you remain there.

As for why she never was number one: she never could give consistent hits nor was she consistent in her performance. Like in the early phase, she was really bad in her acting (Poo phase), then she got better but mostly did this arthouse flicks, then had an inconsistent graph (like sometimes giving JWM, 3I, but followed by number of flops). Hence she never was number 1 -- but that actually worked in her favor.

As a whole she may have been closer to the number one actress, but not completely number one and certainly not for many years at a stretch.

Like in 2007, Katrina was the number one as far as popularity goes (she'd 4 hits), and DP/SK made their debut and the whole industry were gushing over them.

2008 was PC's year with Fashion & Dostana. 2009 were divided between her, PC, Vidya.

2009-2012 were Vidya's years (in terms of awards and critical acclaim), and Katrina's years (in terms of popularity). Kareena was there, but not undisputed number one.

her arrogance and overconfidence in her early years killed her chances; she could never become popular like Katrina.

yes her jwm did put her in reckoning...but she never was crowned the queen bee. even after jwm...she chose craps like tashan , and 2-minute khan movies. and bragged about it. meaning her arrogance continued.

and there was always Katrina Kaif, the most popular since Madhuri and Sridevi.
