Actor Kunal Singh had ‘injury marks’ on his arms and chest

Father of 31-year-old struggling actor Kunal Singh, who reportedly committed suicide at his Oshiwara home last week, has alleged that his son was murdered.

Kunal was found hanging in his rented apartment in the posh Lokhandwala Complex last week. The Oshiwara police probing the case had stated that Kunal had allegedly hanged himself. His friend and co-star in an upcoming film, Laveena Bhatia, was in the house when the incident happened.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Kunal’s father Rajendra Singh, 58, alleged that when he claimed his son’s body from the hospital, he found several injury marks on his arm and chest suggesting that someone strangulated him and later hanged the body from the ceiling to make it look like a suicide.

“I questioned the police about the marks. However, they said the marks were caused while they were taking down Kunal’s body from his flat,” said Singh.

Singh also alleged that the land mafia was behind the killing of his son. “Kunal was negotiating a land deal in Karjat which might be a reason behind his murder,” Singh said.

Kunal’s friend and co-star Laveena Bhatia, who was there in the house during the incident, had told the police that she was in the bathroom when Kunal hanged himself.

Singh however said he was not willing to accept Laveena’s statement. “She is definitely a witness to the crime but she is scared and hiding the facts. I think she has been threatened,” Singh said.

Singh added that an hour before Kunal’s death, he had sent a text message to music director Dabu Mallik, asking whether he could hear the tunes for the film that the actor was producing. “How can he instantly decide to kill himself if only an hour ago he had decided to go to hear the tunes,” said Singh.

Senior police inspector of Oshiwara police, Kiran Sonone, said: “We have asked Singh to get a written complaint and we are probing the matter on out part.”

Kunal had come down to the city in 2003 to make it big in Bollywood. He had recently started work on the production of his upcoming film Yogi in which he was also the lead actor. Kunal had acted in several south Indian films.

While the police were considering that Kunal’s proximity with Bhatia might have led to some troubles, driving him to take such a drastic step, his father Singh said, “Kunal was happy with his wife Anuradha and his two daughters. Rumours about his relationship with Laveen are false

Given recent developments, I have been pondering over whether or not to make this post. But as disclosure of facts evolved in in SSR's case, I felt compelled to at least share with fellow supporters a similar story, eerily similar to SSR's death case.

Actor Name - Kunal Singh

Movies - SStarred in several Tamil films, Bollywood debut opposite Sonali Bendre in Dil Hi Dil Mein (popular song by AR Rahman - Ae Nazneen Suno na)

Kunal was a chance discovery of a Tamil director in then Bangalore where he was interviewing in final stages for Indian Army (His dad is ex-army, a renowned officer). Apparently he was spotted in a cafe and was pursued by the director. Kunal chose to move forward with the Movie offer.

Wikipedia says "On 7 February 2008, Kunal was found hanging from the ceiling in his Mumbai apartment by actress Lavina Bhatia. The apparent suicide was challenged by his father Rajendra Singh who claimed that the body showed signs of suspicious bruising. Bhatia was detained by police in connection with his death, but she was later released after the police could not prove a motive. The police were unable to prove that anyone was present in Kunal's apartment at the time of his death and ruled out Bhatia as a suspect as Kunal had a black belt in karate; furthermore, Kunal had attempted suicide by slashing his wrists several months earlier. At the time of his death, Kunal was working on a Hindi film, Yogi, which was being produced by his newly formed production company Balagiri. The case was referred to CBI and Prof T D Dogra of All India Institute of Medical Sciences. He examined the scene of crime along with CBI and opined in favor of suicide"

There were a lot of loop holes in the story and the case was hushed up. Rumors around land mafia or other mafia did the rounds for a few weeks and then died down. Obviously social media was not as powerful of a tool as it is today or perhaps it may have garnered more attention. The underlying truth of the matter was the Kunal was weeded out like SSR without being igven a chance in the industry.Kunal's father really fought hard to pursue the case but didn't find justice and eventually gave up in light of threats to family and also in interest of looking after his second child, a mentally challenged daughter. "The injury on his right arm suggested that someone was holding him from the back," Col Singh said, "Also, there were strangulation marks on the neck. It was below where it should have been if he had hanged himself. It seemed like he had been hanged after being strangulated.

I am not trying to push any agenda with this post but merely sharing a forgotten story although the similarities in the method of death and how it was characterized as a suicide is very similar to how SSR's case was handled

read another article that said they arrested LAvina Bhatia as the murder suspect in 2019..... although its difficult to understand how can she kill a guy who was black belt in karate
