Why Madhuri did so many horrible movies post HAHK ?

HAHK was her peak, no doubt on that . But after that she starred in so many horrible movies with the likes of Sanjay kapoor and Karishma,Kajol quickly rose to the top. The only good movies from her after HAHK and before Devdas I can think of, are Dil to Pagal Hai and Mrityudand. Why ??

Because her script sense sucks and the offers she got focused more on her dance than acting.

Madhuri is an amazing actress but she isn’t taken seriously which sucks because her acting in Lajja defines the movie and she is the only good thing in Devdas . She chose to do most of her stunts in Gulab Gang which isn’t talked about. She dances like a dream, acts like a dream and looks like a dream yet her potential hasn’t been tapped properly .

To earn money. If you base everything off waiting for good scripts to come then you would end up poor. Producers offered her a high salary and she took it because she knew she had to secure a future for her and her family. That's what any logical person would do plus the movies never even hurt her career. She still got great hits afterwards and remembered for them.

This can be said for B/C listers but she was the top actress at that time

yeah it was horrible, she did nothing but dtph and devdas that was good after that

I think she was exploited by her secretary riku, he was the producer of so many of her mediocre movies. and testament to her bollywood/dance talent/star quality, even those movies have watchable songs.

Pehle ka bhi horrible hi the... lekin hit hue. I think she lost her blind supporters when Sridevi left BW. She was just another dancing heroine like Meenakshi and others. Gave a few big hits the year Sridevi's film underperformed, Sridevi was a pan-Indian superstar, so when public found a replacement of Sri they elevated Madhuri to chaane ki jhaad. And the crazy support was due to that... mango people are vindictive to the people on top... statues gidane ke liye jee jaan laga dete hai. Aur jab statue gid jaaye, naya statue ko mudh ke dekhte bhi nahin. So, basically she stopped being the apple of public's eye when Sridevi left. There was nothing left for janta to fight for.

Because she was never a wonderful actress to begin with. What acting did she do in HAHK? Smiling, dancing, and acting coy was 80% of the movie.

She did well in Devdas, but was overshadowed by Ash (even in the dancing departments).

It's only those dance numbers that really saved her and kept her alive in people's minds.

Uhm, that "horrible" film with Karishma is actually DTPH, so you lost me. Also, great that Kajol and Karishma, and Aish, and others were able to top HAHK and are still such superstars... Oh, wait, not really. 😃

Looking at Madhuri's post-HAHK filmography, I would certainly add Lajja, and the magical Dedh Ishqiya, and the underrated Aaja Nachle. I didn't like Wajood, but it certainly wasn't a horrible film, and neither were Koyla or Prem Granth. But hey, let's continue with the "horrible Madhuri films" narrative, let's shit on her unquestionable talent and versatility (and - of course - let's tie her fandom to Sridevi's career and let's babble about how Aish's 3 hours in Devdas "overshadowed" Madhuri's 45 minutes - that's actually kinda hilarious) instead of considering the most plausible answer: because BW and most of its crappy, unimaginative writers have had nothing interesting to offer to her? Because the said BW and most of its crappy, unimaginative writers still seem to think that 40-something or 50-something, or 60 etc. women are not proper humans and no one will be interested in their stories and emotions? And god forbid actresses dare to be married or to play shady, villainous characters, or to think of themselves as more than grandmas - I mean, only in India people still seem to have a problem with differentiating between an actor and a role. Maybe it's time the audiences grew up, too?
