Agree to this. I feel the saddest for the real Gunjan. No matter how much polite Sreevidya is in her rebuttal, it's in extremely bad taste when she said she didn't claim anything because she didn't want any fame. That thing had stuck with me since her FB post and she said the same in the interview too- making it look like Gunjan is doing everything for fame. Gunjan's whole tone in this interview has changed. She sounds way too restricted, she keeps on saying what is her fault if everyone around her declared her to be the first, she never went to war to make a record that would be a film 21 years later.
I am sorry but it is disrespectful to Sreevidya if we say her coming out after these many years is in bad taste. I had read her FB post, shared in CC, and liked it. ❤️
She clearly mentioned the only reason she spoke out was the movie release. Chalo agreed people didn't know Sreevidya WAS actually the first female to fly in warzone. But they DID know that she was also a trainee with Gunjan. Yet in the movie they simply vanished her, for cinematic effect. So not only are they not crediting her as the first, they're also going ahead and removing her trace from the training period. Just a small footnote towards the end would have been thoughtful, and I think prevented her from speaking out. Even today I think they should add a note at the end credits saying Sreevidya was actually the first. Movies are treated as cannon. I say more than 90% people that know Gunjan Saxena wouldn't have heard her name before this movie. And being first is kind of a big deal too - till date I don't remember that other guy with Neil Armstrong 😆. The point is, Sreevidya shouldn't be questioned for coming out because of the movie - many would do that. Hamaara khoon khoon hai toh uska paani toh nahin! It's difficult to ignore a Bollywood movie in India 😆
Also, she when she says she didn't want fame, she might actually be saying the honest truth! This doesn't malign Gunjan. Gunjan did not "claim" the fame. It was these very pesky reporters that added that tag. None of these ladies are in the fault.
Gunjan herself said we should be respectful of ALL the opinions coming from Air Force veterans, and I agree. This is not Top Gun or Border (fiction) but a "biopic" so they may have valid reactions to what is portrayed. We can give this much leeway to Sreevidya surely.
Also, I think we should not look at all the issues through the prism of right v/s left. 😊
Let's respect both these women, who've been equally dignified, for the service they've given to our nation. Respect. _/\_
