While I agree to your point that it might look odd to keep paying for EMI after vacating, but this is very common actually. Lot of us do that here as it's not rent, but EMI of an asset. It's like when buying a property jointly, the decision is joint, but sometimes one party pays the down payment fully, or the bigger share in it, and the other party decides to pitch in the EMI for so and so period. If the flat is fully transferred to Ankita's name and even if she paid the initial down payment, it'd make more sense for her to fully take ownership of paying the loan off. But if it's still joint (having SSR's name in the flat nameplate means nothing, I am talking about legal registration process) and there were some mutual agreement, then it won't be (even morally) wrong for SSR to pay it off. It all really depends on their prev agreement and all honestly. 😊
