But what I can conclude from these are that Sushant was really in bad company who clearly dint do any good for him!

I think context is important. He obviously knows who Rhea is because in the very next sentence he says it is their personal matter and he wanted to give them space. I think he's trying to say he was friends with Sushant and knew Rhea through him, but not well enough for him to call her his friend.
