I think Shabana Azmi and Smita Patil started the whole women centric trend in art movies

Before them Sharmila tagore did pretty great women centric movies which can be called arty

And so did Rekha and Hema Malini

In 90s Tabu kept the flag flying for women centric movies

Raveena too did a few in fag end of career

Than Vidya comes in the picture with powerful roles

Only than Kangana comes into picture. But if you see kangana has not done a powerful art movie or social message movie till date. Its all commercial only whether Queen (coming of age female) to fashion(commercial) to TWM

Now its tapsee whose dominating in women centric movies with good content like art movies

In 50s and 60s Nargis and Meena kumari did similar powerful roles where female heroines character dominated story lines

That's too far to be honest. I love Queen and Kangana is a great actress in my opinion but calling it a revolution is a bit too far. Queen was a well made movie and Kangana was awesome but taking the whole credit is not right though. I mean, years back we had movies like Chaalbaaz, Seeta and Geeta and they were loved by people. Don't know though whether they were hit or flop.

It's just the matter of makers making such kinds of movies.

In that case using your logic , Queen was also a well made film and could have worked if they showed a male protagonist getting dumped at the alter, going for his honeymoon on his own and making some quirky friends on the way.
