Eid Ul Adha, also known as Bakri Eid, « The greater Eid » is the second Eid which is celebrated by Muslims across the globe. The auspicious day falls on the 10th day of the Holy Month of Dhu-Al-Hijjah. It marks the end of the annual pilgrimage, Hajj and also the end of the Islamic Year.

Eid Ul Adha is the day to commemorate Prophet Ibrahim’s (Alayhi Salam) faith and devotion towards Allah SWT. The Prophet was ready to sacrifice his son Ismail(a.s) to follow Allah’s command. This was a test from Allah SWT to see his commitment towards the Almighty, without any question. At the moment of the sacrifice, Allah SWT replaced Ismail(a.s) with a ram and hence, the act became a testimony.

The act symbolizes our willingness to give up our luxuries, comforts, dearest possessions and make sacrifices in our lives to always stay on the right path. Also to help those who are in need and to strengthen community feelings. It is to train us how to surrender ourselves to the will of Allah for the sake of serving humanity. We recognize that all blessings come from Allah, and we should open our heart and share with others. The attitude of self-sacrifice is the real celebration during Eid Al Adha.

Depending on countries, Eid Ul Adha can be celebrated from 2 to 4 days. Eid prayers are preferably performed in congregation in a Mosque.

Traditionally, the act of Qurbani should be performed between the 10th and the 12th day of Dhu-Al-Hijjah. The sacrifice should respect the Islamic way and not hurt the animal. The meat should be divided into three portions equally shared between the one who does the sacrifice and his family, friends and the ones in need.

The current health crisis doesn’t allow us to be with our families or attend congregational prayers in many countries. We bring you few advises which will help you spend a safe Eid, despite the sad atmosphere.

1. If you can’t go to mosque because it is closed, try to be vigilant in performing the prayer with your family at home. If you’re alone, don't hesitate to pay visit to your neighbors, the sick or the ones in need, if your country or city is not under lockdown, albeit maintaining social distancing.

2. If you find difficult to do the Qurbani, there are many organizations that will help you perform your charity. They propose online services and you can choose for which cause you want to donate.

3. This year, just as the previous Eid, the atmosphere will be different. For many of us, we won’t be able to meet our dear ones. Try to do video calls, share the spirit of Eid with your loved ones. This hard time shall pass.

4. Always be positive, stop worrying and please don’t be alone. In this hard time, loneliness and depression can kill. If you feel alone and you feel that you have no one whom talking to, IF grand family is here. YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

Stay safe and have a blessed Eid Ul Adha.
