I think Karan is really scared to marry Mahira. He doesn't feel strong enough to marry a girl which is unwanted for him. So he is looking for any opportunity to instigate himself to do that step. Because he promised Mahira, Kareena and Preeta. Especially, Preeta.

Preeta makes him stronger. Even if it's anger. I mean he feels stronger in his anger. And he feels that it would be easier for him to marry Mahira out of spite. If Preeta is standing and watching then he is sure enough to marry Mahira.

He is getting married to Mahira only to see pain in Preeta's eyes. He needs her there to justify his reasons and satisfy his ego.

Stupid Mahira thinks Karan’s marrying her because he loves her. He’s only marrying her to make Preeta feel pain and really low about herself, the more he claims that she’s nothing to him and he doesn’t care basically really means that he loves her and cares, he just has a very VERY stupid way of showing it. That’s why (another theory btw 🤣), I’m guessing Preeta’s gonna show up but without the mangal sutra & sindoor and seeing her stick up for herself and act like she really doesn’t care about his second marriage will leave him fuming.

There’s a BTS still of Preeta & Kareena having a face off. I seriously hope it’s Preeta taunting Kameeni Kareena and not the other way round (watch me get clowned when this doesn’t happen 🤣🤣🤡🤡🤡)
