Bollywood Marriages

While watching "Indian Matchmaking", a show on Netflix, I realized something important. For those who haven't watched it, there's a single mom Rupam seeking help from a matchmaker for her second marriage. It was uncomfortable to watch her interact with her dad while seeing the biodatas of prospective grooms. He kept warning her not to make a hasty decision as she had messed up the first time. It looked like he kind of blamed her for choosing a wrong guy the first time and now she has to be extra cautious.

Marriage is a gamble right? Love marriage or arranged marriage, doesn't matter. It can be a smooth ride, or there could be minor hiccups, or it could be a disaster from the very beginning, or it could have it's ups and downs.

Single guys/girls are constantly pressurized to get married but if you think of divorcees then what they go through is worse. There's the baggage of past, then the constant scrutiny of near and dear ones, uncertain future etc.

So, coming to the topic there are many unhappy marriages in Bollywood and I always used to judge the women/men for staying on and not having a backbone. But maybe there's more to it? Maybe they know what they can expect if they choose to walk out? Maybe a cheating spouse is better than an uncertain future and single life...maybe a known devil is better than an unknown angel?

What do you guys think?

If things were different and the Indian society was more accepting of divorces then it would have been a different story. It just gives people an opportunity to cheat..they know their spouse is not going anywhere 😔

Can’t relate. Have no intention or desire to get married. Not bitter or anything. I like men and date them but marriage seems like a total headache to me especially after living through this pandemic. And I definitely do not want biological children so there’s that reason too. However, I do empathize with women who have to tolerate such unreal expectations from their own family members. I understand that’s why they stay in bad marriages. The truth is though there are no guarantee to anything in life. Anything can end. Your family should be your support system if things go sour. They shouldn’t be the one making things harder on you

in india men will marry after divorce also a 20 something unmarried girl only at 40 years too

they will not bother to woo back wife

bollywood is different

heroes act like family men to ensure their career is successful(reminds me of US presidents and their spouse happy family dramas in media)

wifes help them in this drama by showing happy family picture in front of media

in bollywood, wife do not divorce not only because of society

wife wants the power that comes with a A list hero too

majority wife want that only power and privileges that come with being a A list heros wife

Otherwise i cannot see why educated and career wife like twinkle khanna or a gauri bear with their husbands infidelity

Only one who showed courage was amritha singh to divorce saif

In the ideal world yes, but unfortunately all humans are flawed. So when you're close to someone, like your family, then you'll be exposed to their flaws as well. Because family members are always caring for each other, they also burn out, hence we can't always provide the support to each other that we should.

Having said that, brown families are next level crazy! The obsession with "log kya kahenge" and "tradition" and "reputation" is pure garbage and unhealthy.

A guy whose daughter's rishta came for me, got married after his wife died unfortunately. That's the kind of society we live in

That show is something. And not in a good way. It did make me laugh a lot though unintentionally . Talking about Rupam, I think her father was asking Sima to provide information about the prospective match’s first wife...I thought it was totally reasonable to ask since he cared for his daughter and wanted to take extra precautions...now what does Sima do? Oh forget about past...doNt ask about it...lol...Arrey but why...n her reasoning was your daughter is a divorcee too...well that makes it doubly important to know what she is walking into...

as far as Bollywood goes, who knows what is going on behind closed doors?
