I am not yet sure about Mumbai as testing is so low. The numbers have been flat for about 1 and half month now but not coming down.

But, it is quite possible the virus will taper off before the vaccine comes.

I think now the covid positive figures have become irrelevant in Mumbai/Maharashtra. Irrespective of less or more testing the deaths in Maharashtra are pretty steady at around 250 per day. Covid deaths cannot be hidden and have to be reported so that should be a reliable figure to go by. Even the govt. now seems to be just intent in controlling the death rate as due to lockdown fatigue people are least bothered about strictly following norms.

In Mulund, the local corporator used to put out a video every night about the positive cases detected that day within the ward and warning of dire consequences if distancing norms were not followed. Now he has stopped giving those figures and also stopped warning people to follow distancing norms.

I agree finally death numbers matter. But deaths are a function of the positives we get. Deaths were less than 200 till end June( mostly less than 150). They have gone above 250 only in last 5 days. So, there is an incresing trend there.

Social distancing is becoming more and more difficult as time goes by. But governement has to do it's part. only about 5000-6000 tests in Mumbai is too less. That is allowing the spead to happen and the numbers are flat at between 1000-1500 for almost and and half month now. If they had increased testing to more than 10000 ( like Delhi did), there would be a temporary increase to may be even 3000-5000 per day but it would have come down to less than 1000 by now.

Very true. Look at some countries which had almost claimed victory over Corona- Australia - Daily cases had gone down to less than 10 in June, now has gone upto more than 300 per day. Japan - Daily cases had gone down to less than 50 in June, now back to more than 500 per day.

It is not going to totally go away. Mumbai may continue to get 500 cases a day for a long time. We have to take care that it will not spiral up.

So, he lockdown-unlocj chaluch rahil till vaccine comes. We will not be totally free from it.

Dr. Ian Lipkin a well known virus hunter has this to say:

If EVERYONE wore face masks this virus will disappear tomorrow but we don't have people willing to do that.

New York state governor did the same in press conference everyday and still does that once in a while. Distancing, washing hands and face cover cannot be stressed enough. All the countries that have managed to flatten and drop, have avoided second wave only by doing that.
