Because she is always trying to act and not love the character. The only time she wasn't trying was in Chennai Express and to some extent in Piku.

And that is what is true about almost every mainstream actor and actress in most of the movies in every industry. They may act great in some movies, but others are just done for it should be done.

But than again BW movies have never been about acting, it has always been about movie stars being able to carry the movie with their presence, and Deepika is good in that.

This is true otherwise naseerudin shah and manoj bajpee would be no.1 actors of BW

Charisma and looks matter a lot in BW always

Otherwise balraj sahani would have been no.1 actors in 1950s

I still wonder how dilip kumar became top actor in 1950s he was more like an art film actor

afer dilip kumar none of the other top stars were truly great actors they were stars with charisma

like dharmendra, rajesh khanna, vinod khanna, big b, srk, hrithik, ranveer

they were all no.1 stars of their time mostly

but are they no.1 actors of their times

i doubt because big b had naseerudin shah, om puri etc as contemporaries

srk had manoj bajpee, nana patekar as competition

hrithik and ranveer has raj kumar rao, vikrant massey etc

so every decade there are great actors but they are not no.1

No. 1 is man with charisma and good acting too but not as good as the great actors

like you watch any big b movie, you cannot forget thats big b in every scene

watch srk you cannot forget its srk in every movie

so same way deepika is a star actress with some decent acting

shes not some bhumi or tripti or vidya balan or tabu

only dilip kumar was an exception hes a great actor and no.1 star if you watch his movies you keep forgeting he is dilip kumar you feel hes prince salim or a doctor or a devdas or a police etc (atleast in most movies )

We cannot expect other stars to also become a dilip kumar or a meena kumari or a sridevi where you have both exceptional acting and stardom too

Kal ke Alia fan shared clip dekhne ke baad yeh toh pakka hai Deepu is at least better than Aloo. In some of her performances you can feel it was heartfelt emotion, not just shouting and gesticulating.
