This is not really true, it's just dependent on audience tastes. People here like to target the actresses most but actually most of the top female stars today (DP, Kat, PC, Anu, Kriti, Kangana, etc) do not have any film background.
Perhaps we can say that the definition of rejection has evolved. Earlier, actors had much shorter careers so after a certain point, they stopped featuring in prominent work. It wasn't that Esha Deol or Kumar Gaurav stopped getting any work, it was just that they chose to stop working due to other reasons. Today, there are so many more opportunities due to multiple platforms that you can eventually get some work. Even Nargis Fakhri who was so universally panned still gets films today so we should really define rejection as box office performance.
