It’s strange that the debate always starts off as insiders taking away outsiders roles and ends up with “oh yeh ppl can invest in whoever they want to but they shouldn’t interfere / offer negative press etc”
Ofcourse they shouldn’t..but the initial debate on this topic was that insiders get all the budgets and outsiders don’t..that insiders get the extra movie screens and promotions and outsiders don’t..
hers the thing, everyone incl producers and distributors, theatre owners run a business....if the feel safer gambling their money on insiders it’s their business and their choice...
Bhajrangi Bhaijaan got more screens than baahubali 1 because no one knew the latters potential Then and were testing waters...once the existing screens of baahubali 1 filled up, they increased screen count...
So much so that by the time the second part released; multiplexes dedicated all their screens to baahubali given the curiosity and response and totally ignored tubelight later when it flopped ...
Did rajamouli complain abt not getting as many screens as bhajrangi in the north? ofcourse not despite him having the more expensive film, his market wasn’t established in the Hindi belt and ofcourse ppl will screen salmans movie more than his
No one is obligated to give u theatres, movies, budgets...they will give if they are willing to take the risk...they can be willing to take the risk because ur a familiar face or because they have a soft spot for u or because u come with a backing or because u have proved ur worth...whatever the reason might be, their money their choice....
More often than not if ur film is genuinely being well recieved, theatres are only more than happy to screen it ...they make more profit from a full theatre than an empty one that a certain Producer paid them to continue screening
