Lets not forget she isnt educated enough or hasnt experienced much of life outside her home. Nothing wrong in caring for the person in the manner in which one understands or deems fit..but I also find it problematic why it is a one way street, but that is how the South Asian society is in general.

I also liked Shanzay's character a couple of times in this show - when she rejected Abdullah for the first time - she was rude, but she was right - he was harassing her and she was not interested in him. She also took a strong step in terms of walking out of toxic marriage. Nobody needs to live like that. What is the biggest flaw with her character is falling for Abdullah. It was unrealistic and stupid and she almost became some sort of a homewrecker too. But what she said on the call was correct that if Abdullah expects khidmat from her, he needs to be ready to do the same thing for her too.

Lol, the bolded is not true. If my mum ever tried doing that with my dad he would have stopped it immediately. He also cooks occasionally and does other chores.

My grandfather would do all his own chores, and cooked regularly in his younger days.

Agree with the second paragraph.

Those who are bashing Abdullah/Bilal are wrong. It's not his fault. Their intentions might not have been wrong but they did make a blunder out of the scene.

It was wrong of Mahjabeen too to do all this but that's what society has ingrained in her. I blame the society and the creative heads for the flawed aspects.

In humsafar, Asher thinks about how khirad would stay awake and give him a head massage when he had a headache not she opening his shoes right. Just bcz here they r two bawla characters doesn't make the scene right. I am sure we all would be infuriated if Asher remembered her for all this.

For the same reason I find the novel ZINDAGI gulzar hai very problematic bcz in that Kashaf does become that joote polish karne wali biwi. Of course it can be a choice but that relationship in the novel was toxic unlike the drama where Kashaf makes him fall in love with him deeper by doing little things like cooking the food he likes. But that's also problematic bcz these dramas never really show how men would do such gestures. They have divided gestures also into two kinds- men spending money and buying gifts while women doing the chores. I think it's high time we get past that.

As for feminism, each of us may have different views. But I never accept it's demonization. Feminism accepts within its fold women who engage in domestic labour. It never ridicules it. Infact it argues for its due recognition and appreciation. Without the emotional and domestic labour that our mothers engage in, the entire capitalist structure would begin crumbling.

I disagree with the bold. I studied feminism at uni and have always had a love/hate relationship with it. There are strands within feminism that abhor women who choose domestic life, they perpetuate the following:

1) Although these women claim they have chosen domestic life, this choice is down to patriarchal socialisation - so the women have no freewill vis-a-vis 'choice'.

2) These women are playing into and upholding patriarchy and are therefore 'part of the problem'.

These are legitimate takes within feminist discourse. So it's false to claim feminism unanimously upholds and appreciates women who choose domestic life.

In fact, with the onset of trans rights, feminism is becoming increasingly problematic as it chooses to uphold trans activists at the expense of women's rights.

I dont think Mahjabeen is capable of taking revenge in the sense that she is such a beautiful innocent soul ...taking revenge etc would not even occur to her ...she is a better person then this but she is brave enough to face Sarwar

Even I don't think she will bcz she already said she doesn't blame Abdullah. Also Wikipedia page has been edited now

Umm pata nahi. She doesn't blame Abdullah. She knows how he is plus she thinks depsite trying Abdullah didn't fall in love

Shanzay is here to stay till the last episode looks like🤪they may end this show with Abdullah and MJ uniting right in the end😵

I hate such ends. Leaves you wanting and craving for some good epilogue kind of scene. Like zgh or even humsafar

Yeah exactly. The problem was with the term and the scene. Khidmat doesn't exactly translate to care. It means service. Urdu synonym would be mulazamat according to google.

So that is deeply problematic.

Agree about ZGH, I have only seen the drama, but Zaroon was some kind of a logical chauvinist, if that makes sense. He was conservative, but that aspect of him fit very well in the wavelength of his relationship with Kashaf..she wanted someone who would take charge as the "head of the house" and be authoritative, since she missed the presence of her father in the truest sense of it at her maternal home. Infact in many ways, her taking care of all things of Zaroon secured her in a way, considering the weight of her own demons and insecurities. It enabled her to believe that she belonged with him and their relationship would not fail. So in the realms of the story, or in the realms of the couple Zaroon and Kashaf were, it worked for them - their own shortcomings became each other's strength. However, I would never idolize a man like Zaroon - he could be a playboy in college, but the way he reacted when he came to know about Osama's proposal was just hypocritical and childish.

Zaroon in the drama was also an overt chauvinist. But compared to the novel he is not even one bit of it. Lol. But he literally goes like "main manta hoon mard ghar ka sarbara hota hai" . He had very typical patriarchal views. Yes u are right they did fit together bcz may be she craved that relationship in her own household.

Exactly. I would never want a Zaroon in my life. He was a big hypocrite and the kind of things he said prior to marriage during those college days about Kashaf and middle class people, all those things did make me feel Kashaf does it right when she insults him. And I actually enjoy those scenes when she shuts him up. But yeah shaadi ke bad he does change a bit regarding all this but he remains a patriarchal character with so many problems. When I rewatch I can't help but see the flaws

Ok back to PKS😆 I am really hopeful that the tragic part of this show will come to an end with Munshiji's death and everyone will gang up against Sarwar and his downfall will be fun to watch!

Asher was a big time loser lol. Khirad was stronger than him.

I hope so too

I agree bcz she just came back for her daughter.
