People say karan arjun , but originally it should be bheem arjun both compliment each other & loved each other unconditionally.
I see after krishna even bheem is like guiding force 4 arjun as he has corrected arjun a times , he was real ideal big brother , he had fondness 4 nakul Sahdev 2. A complete family man ❤️

The protagonist is at the center of the story, makes the key decisions, and experiences the consequences of those decisions. The protagonist is the primary agent propelling the story forward, and is often the character who faces the most significant obstacles. (From Wiki, but this is accurate).
Without Arjuna, without Bheema, without Krishna, even without Panchali, the plot would've worked. Because the PLOT (not the philosophy or the politics) runs on the rivalry between Yudhishtira and Suyodhana.
If it weren't for Arjuna, Drupada might've engineered a mace fighting contest. Or gone straight for an arranged marriage. An archery contest was not required to win Panchali.
If not for Arjuna, Bheema could've won over those kingdoms. Or would take longer, but it would've happened.
Arjuna killed exactly one main person in war. That was Karna. If not for him, Krishna would've arranged it some other way.
If not for Panchali, there would've been someone else in her place. Maybe they wouldn't have gotten the Pandavas out. But I doubt they would've stayed slaves for long. Some story would've been cooked up why it was important to kill the masters.
If not for Krishna, the alliance would still have happened. Perhaps the Pandavss wouldn't have won, but it would have happened.
The only 2 people without whom there would be no Mahabharata at all (in the core story; don't tell me no story without Yayati😆) are Suyodhana and Yudhishtira.
Much as I loathe Yudhishtira, he IS the protagonist of Vyasa's Mahabharata.
Exactly Mahabharatha is the story of Jaya of Yudhishtir and Parajay (or might I say the new word Ajaya) of Duryodhan.
Yudhishtir is the protagonist and Suyodhan is the antagonist. I guess since the justice for Draupadi is another major element so she would be the co Protagonist (heroines are slightly lesser important as it is)
Karna n Arjun could be the second leads from their sides. Krishna Bheem Shakuni and maybe Dusshashan are others major supports to their sides.
Bheeshm was a patriarch and most important support
Excluding these 10 others all shape the story the way it progressed but these ten are the pillars

Bheem is love
He is my favourite along with Draupadi and Vidur

I will say vedvyas choose d worst protonogist who has most qualities of a villain .

Unfortunately true. Just think it to be the story of a wrong person

Krishna enters the epic at Swayamwar, and is missing at major parts like Dyut Sabha, big portion of Van Parva, he could be anything but the main protagonist
He is actually just the most important strategic support to the main protagonist, its no where his story (his stories are in Mahabharata spin-offs like Sreemad Bhagwatam or Harivamsapurana)
We are tempted to make him the lead because of hos divinity not because of his role
I agree on the Arjun part though
i just feel the whole MB war was his doing krishna. i always try to look at MB in non divine way.
i always felt krishna & draupadi were the main ones who were more on the whiter side,. the pandavas on the grey side. and kauravas like dury karna dushasan shakuni on the black side.
the main story is of kauravas and pandavas though.

Krishna couldn't have anticipated the Dyut Sabha and the happenings in it.
Mahabharatha actually was a loss to him since he had the risk to lose out on his allies. The difference between Kauravas n Pandavas wasn't his doing either. He at made use of condition in front of him
Krishna isn't completely white either. I can never support his suggestion of abduction of his sister or his role in KhandavDahan (although HearMeRoar justifies this one)
He was a strategic partner to Pandavas agreed, but even in his absence Mahabharata the main plot would have taken place more or less similarly

But that Vajra body thing is definitely not a part of the epic
really why did bhima have to hit him below waist then?
