Why didn't Preity Zinta get award for Veer-Zaara but Rani did for Hum Tum?

Preity definitely deserved the best actress award than Rani in Hum Tum.

Preity was marginally better than Rani, but not by a long shot. Rani won because:

1. Preity already won the award last year and usually actresses don't get consecutive wins.

2. Rani never won the best actress award despite being in the industry for so long, so she was considered overdue and the media felt the need to award her.

3. It was Rani's year with HT, Yuva and VZ -- Rani was def. more popular than Preity that year and these awards are based on popularity.

4. Rani was very influential at that time, and YRF production house could influence award for her.

But I think it's no.2 and 3 mostly. These awards are base on popularity and Rani certainly was more popular that year.

Rani's role and performance were not award worthy. She didn't deserve the award. Preity should have taken it.

Neither Rani nor Preity, Aishwarya delivered a knockout performance in Raincoat and none of the performances that year could come close to that.

But then it was the year after she was boycotted by the industry bigwigs, so nobody was going to touch her with a ten foot barge pole.

Indian award shows were never reliable to begin with..

I guess for the same reason why Rani didn't win for Saathiya in 2002 or Chalte Chalte in 2003. In both movies she was miles ahead of Aishwarya and Preity.

I am not a fan of Aishwarya's acting but she was amazing in Raincoat. One of the most underrated movies I have ever watched

Aishwarya won Zee Cine Critics Best Actress Award for Raincoat.

Her name was also first announced for national Award in News channels for Raincoat but later another actress name was announced.

The film was offbeat. Thats why she was not given Filmfare award. Same thing happened with her during 2010 when she deserved for Guzaarish than cringe worthy performance by Kajol in MNIK. Kajol was supporting character but she was given best actress just because she is a friend of Karan Johar.

Should have gone to Urmila for EHT IMO
