Aamir vs. Salman -- box-office pull?

I was wondering, do we undermine Aamir Khan's box-office pull? I think he has a huge mass following, as well as class following. My reasoning is that he doesn’t make as many movies as Salman Khan, but the ones he does make, at least over the past decade, are box office magic. Nine of his last ten films have been enormous global hits. His pictures are not just commercial successes, they’re also critical darlings, thoughtful take on important social issues, that also happen to be great fun.

Acc. to me, it's very few people who has the magical power to consistently open pictures based on the strength of their name alone. Aamir has had that power for decades, and he has been scaling new heights with almost every film for at least a decade.

Do you think we undermine Aamir's fan following on this forum?

Salman Khan has a huge following among launde lapades and do we honestly believe that's the only fan-base worth courting?

Aamir's following, like SRK's, cuts across class, generations etc. And here's the thing: even Thugs of Hindustan opened at almost 40 crores. Even Dabangg, being a franchise, could not open to such numbers.

Salman has more vocal fans who are all over the place. But Aamir has the neutral audience eating out of his hands.

Thoughts???

You cant compare Thugs of Hindostan's opening with Dabangg 3.

Appropriate comparison would be with Race 3 which released in the same year, had the same type of holiday release and was more brutally panned .

Yet it ended up as average

Exactly.

I think Aamir has more box-office pull, Salman has more loud fans. People confuse the two things.

No he doesn’t have more pull or all his films would do what his event films did. Pre Corona virus Hiatus it was consensus that Salman was most reliable as everything of his crossed 100 crore. Unlike everyone else including Aamir. An I don’t wanna hear about about Salman doing more fan pleasing genres. Cause if the “pull” was there then Talaash would’ve Done what his other films did as oppose to quite a bit less.

Amir's movies both have content and stardom of Amir but Salman's movies only have Salman's stardom.

I love Amir and he is one actor, whom movies I wait to release. But, Salman is undoubtedly someone who attracts audience solely on his name. Amir really works hard on everything related to his one movie in a year and put all his efforts including working on the best content. While Salman is just Salman. I don't like Salman but can't deny that he is one such star who can pull the audience even if he doesn't do anything in the movie.

But that's the thing.He can embrace any good script not thinking of it's commercial value. He continues to star in films like Dhobi Ghat, Talaash knowing it won't do well. These films keep his classy fans satisfied. And then he comes with one big commercial film and makes up for all the loss.

An ? Maybe will have to send the independent accountant the numbers again but Salmans pull was proved It be the best as of 2010-2019. Infact due to TOH Aamirs numbers fell below Akshay even. Before he thinks about Salman even Aamir needs to deal with that 🤣

I think Salman has more stardom. No doubt about that. But box-office pull is a diff. thing.

I think Salman has more stardom. No doubt about that. But box-office pull is a diff. thing.

You are right, I got confused between BO and stardom. But even with BO, Salman earns much more than he applies efforts. While Amir does everything possible and he gets the desired results. But yeah, worldwide it's Amir and SRK for sure.

Salman...his trash also somewhat makes money.
