Well mishkil and ilu gave us readers nice thane darshan though personally have visited only once and had done some paddle boating in some lake in thane many years back.

@mishkil i am not a dadar resident though my school was in hindu colony dadar. I used to go there by school bus.

@mukta matunga had nice south indian snacks at udipi n then softie icecream close to it n madhu book depot which carried all scholarship n extensive academic books. My mom used to get library books from Abbas at kings circle.

@suraj camlin reminds me of their special compass box which had divider , etc math instruments which was mandatory in our school from 3rd grade ie standard luv camlin n. Also those scented rubbers to accessorize the pencil ends 😍

Miss those summer months buying new textbooks and books covering them with brown cover only with labels, also carrying milton waterbags for cool water n lunch boxes to keep lunch hot.

Those were 😎😎😎 cool days

About Central Matunga, the thing I liked the most was Frankies and Dabeli just behind Khalsa College. There were about 3 colleges in that area, one of them mine. There were quite a few Xerox centres from where we would get Xeroxes of all the books before our exam leave started. There was a small tea stall where they would sell great samosas and there was an Irani cafe that had great Brun-Maska. I can still tase the tea.

Last time I visited about 3-4 years back, We went to have our routine tea in Irani cafe but it was shutdown, however Mhatre was still in operation and so were Frankies. The xerox centers were also still there, I guess even in times of ebooks students still prefer Xerox copies of text books.

They have changed UDCT's name now. VJTI's name has also been changed but initials remain the same, I think.

UDCT, Khalsa and VJTI are bang opposite each other with only a road separating them.

There is a coffee house in that area. The smell of the coffee when you would pass the shop was just too good. I think it was on the way to Matunga station.

Yes IMHO you get the best bhelpuri at Chowpatty....The salt spray from the Arabian sea is free and nature's gift.😀... Also add the malishwala , ganderi wala and kulfiwala .... They all complete the picture ...last but not the least the majestic view of Wilson college in backdrop along with the sarakta Geena ( what a treat it was to play on it as kids with half pants and Bombay dyeing t shirts 😀 )
