Surely there were iconic characters, still they were villains who killed people. Why would anyone want to stay with them, even hypothetically.

I guess in a way they were put in to keep a balance and/or may cater to other peoples needs lool! Some people might like a villain! The person might act as an individual who is to change these villain characters? I totally get where you are coming from!
