Why does Imtiaz Ali always cast star kids as his protagonist?

Kareena's geet in JWM,RK in tamasha,Alia in highway and anybody who has been unfortunate enough to see LAK2 knows it was more about Sara's character's journey.

Aditya in jwm,tara in tamasha and mahabir in highway weren't insignificant but they weren't the protagonists either.

He sucks at picking talent

I think he knows he makes movies which are pretty bad in all aspects, and wants to give a certain kind of visibility by casting star kids. He thinks that will increase the chances of success.

Having said that, Kartik Aryan did have a substantial role in LAK2.

First film got made because the hero could ask his superstar uncle to finance it. Second one also found a producer in that same superstar's son. Though it didn't happen, but he found financier because Sunny approved it. He cast two other industry kids and got new producer easily.

So he knows he would get the dough if he casts industry kids, if not from the kid's uncle then the uncle's friend will finance it.

Shah Rukh Khan was the protagonist in his critically acclaimed blockbuster hit film Jab Harry Met Sejal and everyone knows that The King Khan hails from extremely lower class Indian background. Not a star kid.

I mostly like his actors,but except in RK's case all the second leads were better than main leads.Randip>alia.Shahid is a greater actor than kareena in general
