A FIT OF RAGE
Prerna was scared and worried but most of all she was pissed off, like really pissed off because the absolute moron she unfortunately was married to definitely didn’t care about himself or her or their daughter because if he did he would be in his hospital bed resting like he had been instructed to by the doctor and not on the stupid TV screen, signing the stupid merger. It didn’t matter to her if this was the biggest industry merger of the year, he shouldn’t have tricked her or threatened the Doctor.
He had been involved in an car accident planned by his rivals not 2 days before, he needed to rest at least for a week, stay off the radar, have his security checked but of course Mr I own the damn world had to leave the hospital, sign the deal himself, act like he was perfectly fine and smirk at the whole world while he carefully planned the destruction of his attackers.
She wanted to smack that smirk off his face and Rishab Bajaj should have thanked his stars that she didn’t have in it to kill someone, because it would have been him. Prerna was worried, because while he showed no outward signs of pain she knew the wounds were still hurting and she hoped that at least he had been sensible enough to take his pain killers.
She was far too angry to care about the poor doctor who was bearing the burn of her anger“Aap ek doctor hai, aapka kaam logo ko treat karna hai, apne patients ka welfare dekhna hai aur aapne ek serious patient ko issliye jaane diya because he threatened you, aap kya 10 saal ke bache hai jo dar gaye?” Prerna knew she was being unfair, Rishab Bajaj didn’t stop at anything to get what he wanted, she had ended up getting married to him because he wanted it there was no way the doctor could have stopped him but the rational side of her brain wasn’t working.
Dr Rakesh Ahuja was regretting not seeing his horoscope today, this terrible day kept getting worse a serious surgery, unannounced rain, the fight with his wife, being threatened by Rishab Bajaj and then hear his wife shouting was terrible and despite himself he felt a little sorry for Mr Bajaj because if he was scary his wife was terrifying with a capital T and she didn’t look very happy with him right now.
******************************************************** All this while Mr Bajaj stood outside the door with Mehra, hearing her shouting would have been amusing if he didn’t know that he was next in line, she sounded so mad that he just knew she would rip him apart piece by piece as soon as she caught sight of him, signing deeply he entered the room.
She spared the poor doctor and looked at the actual source of all the confusion in her life, glad that he looked fine, well as fine as one could look in his condition, but soon the worry and relief in her eyes was replaced by anger, anger at everything at him, at herself, at the stupid accident and at her own stupid confusing feeling.
Why did it hurt so much to see him hurt, why did this life, this marriage she never wanted mattered so much, why did it seem so real so tangible when it was nothing but a sham, an act and a bunch of legal papers that had sealed their destiny.
She was so tired of being confused of asking herself the same questions every night for months and she really didn’t appreciate her husband’s self-destruct tendencies right now but she would deal with him later there was someone else she needed to bash up first.
“Mr Mehra, you are supposed to be sensible unlike your boss” he narrowed his eyes at that “you were meant to keep an eye on him not help him sneak out and please don’t tell me you were afraid of being fired because both of us no he wouldn’t last a day without you, and please refrain from helping him in his schemes from now.”
Poor Mehra could only look pleadingly at his boss before going out of the room to check with the hospital management, he really wondered who needed his prayers more his employer or his employer’s wife before deciding it was too complicated and decided to pray for his own job and sanity.
She hadn’t said a word to him while the doctor had checked his vitals and had only looked at him after everybody had left the room.
“Do you have any idea how difficult has it been to put your daughter to sleep without you,how heart wreaking it is to see these bandages on you or how difficult is it to keep nightmares of you bloody and broken at bay” her voice was low barely above a whisper “Of course you don’t, or maybe you do but you just don’t care was it really important to leave the hospital was it really necessary to rub it in my face that I don’t matter enough for you to listen to me, you turned my life upside down” he prided himself for not flinching then “for your daughter so please have the decency to not get yourself killed for her sake at least because anyone else doesn’t matter anyway”she said before walking out of the door.
It had happened far too quickly had he had a second more he would have kissed her, told her she mattered more than anyone, pacified her and told her how sorry he was to worry her. Alas he vowed to himself to make it up to her as soon as he got the chance.
