I think you need to look at things from a bigger picture POV. The reality is, that in a huge country like India the actresses you mentioned are an exception. A tiny % of women with no connections will ever make it. Plus, in the lot, most of these women didn’t just come out of nowhere. Deepika was the daughter of a famous athlete who had wider connections and gave her access to a modelling career (which enabled her acting career), Priyanka got into acting through Miss world. Kangana sold her body to an older actor to get connections, Katrina got super lucky to get Salman as a godfather...not sure about Anushka but she clearly got it reallly hard for years (being called ugly and undermined). And apart from Katrina (not sure about Vidya) all of them come from well off families (so again, connections through mingling in rich kids). Bottom line is, had these women not have either extraordinary beauty, will/hard work, connections and/or luck; they wouldn’t have made it. Now compare their trajectory with star kids...they can have subpar beauty, talent and drive and are still being launched. Whether they are successful of not is irrelevant imo. They have the opportunities.

I wouldn’t drag shraddha in because if you ask me she is one of the few star kids who paved her way on her own. Whether it be through her looks, she did it on her own.

Nepotism has really played the Devil in the last 6-8 years if you ask me. Not only alia, but ananya, Jhanvi, sara...all these actresses are benefiting from nepotism today than they would have maybe 10 -15 years ago. It’s going to continue with the wave of star kids. I think the reason for this is fear by industry insiders of losing their value as a family businsss where their own can prosper. There are biggies in the industry who truly don’t want to see anyone but their own reach heights and it’s sad.

I think if you put any of these star kids in the group of where Priyanka, rani, Deepika were in their prime, none of them would make it big With nepotism, the competition is purposely subdued so people who are average star kids have better access to stardom when they are not worthy of it.

even if she is a product of nepotism, she coexisted with multiple actresses and was able to sustain meaning she was a competitive actress.
today there is no competition, because if there was.. star Kids would be wiped out. And poor Karan johar won’t want this.

Let's flashback to the 1990s:

- Pooja Bhatt (daughter of Director Mahesh Bhatt)

- Karisma Kapoor (daughter of actor Randhir Kapoor)

- Kajol (daughter of actress Tanuja)

- Raveena Tandon (daughter of director Ravi Tandon)

- Tabu (niece of actress Shabana Azmi)

- Rani Mukerji (daughter of director Ram Mukherjee)

- Sharbani Mukherjee (cousin of actresses Kajol/Rani)

- Amrita Singh (niece of actress Begum Para)

- Padmini Kolhapure (niece of singer Lata Mangeshkar)

- Simple Kapadia (sister of actress Dimple Kapadia)

- Madhoo (niece of actress Hema Malini)

- Namrata Shirodkar (sister of actress Shilpa Shirodkar)

- Jyotika (sister of actress Nagma)

- Pratibha Sinha (daughter of actress Mala Sinha)

^ a good 8 of them were super successful, some less so.

This list was compiled quickly off the top of my head. I think there are lots more names that could be mentioned with some research.

NOT to mention, when it comes to MALES, the list is much longer, here are a few names to ponder: Sanjay Dutt, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Anil Kapoor, Kumar Gaurav, Govinda, Saif Ali Khan, Mohnish Behl, Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Ajay Devgan, Armaan Kohli, Sanjay Kapoor, Ayub Khan, Fardeen Khan, Shadaab Khan, Akshaye Khanna, Rahul Khanna, Rishi Kapoor...

The situation was FAR worse back then.

Deepika Rani and Priyanka were working on the same opportunities practically. Star kids today have an advatage in terms of work. It is worse today becuse there is no scope for outsiders today to get those opportunties and work on the same level early on in their careers. It takes years and years of work for an outsider actress/actor to get the same type of film that a star kid is getting in their 2nd film. Star kids have the advantage of a graph of consistent good work very early on in their career due to this opportunity advantage and huge disparity.

If they are somewhat talented, their way to success is paved basically because they are getting the correct oppotunties very early on while others dont have that advantage. However, Eventually we do see certain talent that have to work years to pave a way through struggle make it to the top because they end up proving talent/screen presence more than the priveleged star kid. It has happened many of times.

The spike in disparity in early career rise is clearly due to the wave of star kids debuting, and thats why I think it is worse today.

There is another element to this debate that is not being discussed.

MODELS

The modelling world ALSO gives a huge and unfair advantage when it comes to entering Bollywood. Any girl that does Miss India gets noticed and COUNTLESS models were given ACTING jobs based JUST ON THEIR LOOKS. They are not quite as "OUTSIDER" as they are being portrayed.

Deepika Padukone, Anushka Sharma, Aishwarya Rai, Priyanka Chopra, and many many many more. They all had multiple directors signing them up just because they were successful models. In fact Deepika's voice was DUBBED in Om Shanti Om because her dialogue delivery was so bad. Farah literally said in many interviews that she just loved her face "she had that old world vibe" type.

That puts them at an unequal advantage to some real outsider. Just like "nepotism".

Something to think about.
