Why did Rocket Singh(2009) fail?

I believe Ranbir gave his career-best perf. as Harpreet Singh.

The movie was simple and sweet, but tugged at your heartstrings. Very well written, well-scripted and well-executed movie, the strength of which lies in its extreme understatement, simplicity and subtle attitude; coupled with that addictive charm which means it can be watched more than once.

So relatable...the theme and the dialogues were so meaningful. Everyone has gone through the phases of suffering after being over-enthusiastic at work or having a bad boss.

It's my favourite movie of 2009. Do you guys feel it would have become a hit if it released now, when people are more open to engaging yet different content?

I didn't like it. I found it boring.

I didn't know the film failed at BO. I thought it was well-received. My family and I love the movie. we watch it whenever it comes on TV. The entire cast did well, esp Ranbir and the actor who plays the boss (forgot his name).

Ranbir has done so many memorable films... why does he do so little films?

It was really a good performance. But I guess Ranbir was not famous during that time.

The trailer did a poor job of selling the film. It was supposed to be different. But unfortunately you get nothing from it other than Ranbir is playing a sardarji and a salesman. No interesting songs. No heroine. It's hard to whip up interest just from these facts. A superb movie let down by poor marketing.

There were really good expectations on the movie before its release. It's from the director/team of Chak De India. But, it was too dry and subtle for the Indian audience. The following weeks had the release of Avatar and 3 Idiots, it really had no chance.

If the movie is made as it is, it is going to fail or underperform for sure, no matter when it is released. Back then it was the perfect DVD movie, now it should be called the perfect OTT movie.

Thts one of my fav movies. I feel it was ahead of its times as back then ppl were more into masala movies while Rocket Singh was content driven. It would have fared better at box office if released today. Also one of Ranbir’s finest performances!

The movie was really good and I agree with you but these kind of movies do fail at box office that too at that time when content based movies weren't working. Swades too failed at Box Office despite having SRK the superstar in it. (I find that movie SRK's best and my one of the favourites) .There are many like Rocket Singh which are underrated but I am glad that people still remember that movie. I loved it. ❤️
