There is a subtle difference between MJ and Maya. Whatever MJ does is because of his male ego, hooking up with random girls, controlling his public image, controlling and spying on his family members esp his son's personal life, treating his wife the way he did, cheating under her nose with her best friend.. MJ wants to feel that he is the God in the lives of the people around him, when actually he is just too insecure and has a fragile ego. His ego is the place where his sanak or psychoness originates from.
Maya is also psycho, but the origin point is different, even if it looks similar to MJ. Her psychoness originates from her pain. The pain of losing her baby, her brother, her mom's sanity, her dream, her identity, her heartbreak. Maya got so consumed by her pain that she started behaving like a dead person, with no feelings, although her emotions came to the fore when it came to Rudra. In her bid to take revenge from the Roys, the "dead" Maya started acting like her perpetrator i.e. MJ, so her actions started looking similar to MJ.
But Maya never cheated on Rudra's love after accepting it and starting her relationship with Rudra, except she hid her past and her mission. MJ, on the other hand, was neither loyal to Antara nor Diya.
