He wasn’t perfect...Vidhur ji calls him out later and so does Krishna...If I remember it correctly, the last closing down scene is Krishna telling Bheeshma how he got his priorities wrong and because of which an entire clan suffered...

But more than Bheeshma, I hold that tharki Shantanu the root cause of all the problems...
