As a kid when I watched Mahabharat, he was my 2nd favorite after Krishna.
Now I am bit disappointed. I don’t know why he gave that promise about celibacy. It’s stupidity. He was like I was doing my putra-dharma. But dude you are revered as great knowledgeable about Rajneetiand doing the right thing. Rajneeti says — put praja before personal interests.
His father was sad he couldn’t marry Satyavati then as Raja, it was fine if he sacrificed. You can’t put all of hastinapur at stake coz raja was lattoo over a lady and couldn’t move on.
Bhaishma promised that Satyavati’s son will be king. But do you even know how that son is gonna turn out? Not done. Wrong promise. 👎
This! So much this. I love Mahabharat, and love watching BR's version the most; the actors lived those characters that whenever Nitish B comes on, I'm like haye my Kahna is here. Rewatching this as an adult, no matter how much I try to see it from the view point of that time, I question it. A man's lust destroyed how many generations? Raja Bharat found no son to be worthy, and found someone from his praja. Shantanu was the younger son, not the oldest.
Shantanu waited years for Devrat to come back, declining to adopt Kripa and Kirpi, because you know Devrat was going to come. Then when Devrat does come, all of a sudden he is latoo on Satyavati.
Here, Devrat, blinded by his parental love, sacrifices the kingdom. For a father, who is not just a father but a king, should have denounced the thrown if he could not keep it in his pants, Devrat was so wrong on this pratigya. However, he had to live the consequences and that is what I love about Mahabharat. You are free to make the choices you make, but those choices come with consequences.
The grey color of each character is wonderful.
