I dont think she meant to give him false hopes. I feel that although Armaan was helping out Muskaan, the mistake was in not telling her the entire story before anyone else got a chance. So Rahul got to her first, even though he thought he was telling Muskaan. And I also think Muskaan giving him the bracelet made it look like in her eyes that he was her boyfriend. So had these misunderstands not happened, the feelings would not be as damaged as they are. Two sides to every story, as they say in journalism.
