Why don't they use ghazals in BW movies anymore?

I've been listening to old BW music and suddenly this gem came up in my playlist:

I remember it being such a rage even though it's a sadder, slow song and has definitely aged well. Nowadays, every BW soundtrack is either a forgettable hip thruster or a lazy remix of a classic that most likely aren't going to be remembered decades later.

Wth happened to soulful music and adding ghazals? I feel like music like this nowadays would definitely stand out in tunes that sund relatively the same. Thoughts?

Qawwali and ghazal seems to have gone the same way. Those qawwalis from the 60s and 70s were awesome especially those featuring the battle between the male and female singers. i believe Rishi Kapoor's qawwali Shah ka rutba in Agneepath was the very last one. 80s and 90s were the golden period for ghazals. Every other Sanjay Dutt movie had a Pankaj Udhas ghazal.Not to mention Pankaj's singles during the height of Indipop era. Jagjit Singh's ghazal from Sarfarosh seems to have been the last popular one.

Gaane wale bhi to chahie.Gazals I feel is a very difficult genre.Lets bring Ali Sethi in Bollywood.

Hosh waalon ko khabar kya... Phir le aaya dil... hmmmm so so melodious... these are rarely made...

Hope they don’t use Ghazals in movies because using Ghazals means Tanshik will kill those first 🤢
