Would Alia have been able to sustain her career without KJO's backing?

Hell to the no. She is only successful because of Karan johar giving her the best films, curating her career, and promoting her as if it’s his 9 to 5 job.

She’s not even all that talented and not very pretty. Looks don’t matter much but even her talent is average. If she was a mind blowing actor but was average looking, I would say she would have chance.

who knows, her dad is also a producer, so if it didn't work out with kjo then i am sure her dad would have given her films

but yes having kjo has helped her become a popular mainstream actress, kjo knows how to get his dharma kids popularity and attention

the question should be rephrased that if kjo launched another actress instead of alia would she be successful?
That would be a clear yes. If she had any level of talent, she would be on top because she would be given the correct films regardless
