on kuhu-kunal ongoing track:

I agree with Sam, infact earlier it was bothering me too that kunal is not treating kuhu well & I wanted a separation track & was not okay with kuhu compromising with being last (actually 2nd last as aqua explained) in kunal's priority list

but I think both are behaving as per their characters, kunal's journey of love has just started, he has just started acknowledging his feelings for her, he is yet to act & behave on those feelings

so I am glad that we are getting a slow progress in their love story because otherwise it would just mean that their love story will be over & they will just play supporting characters in the leads story

the writers are trying to explore the kuku characters gives me hope that we will see a full-fledged love story of them, instead of a rushed story

Social shows were definitely hypocritical in that the FLs and MLs were as conservative in their behaviour as possible. The Naagin phenomenon is fun when the nagins patko people and hiss at the them but the tropes we discussed are still the same. On ITV, even naagins are sanskaari. You can be a naagin but then your biggest problem in life will be your saasu maa.

Exactly! Shows the lean into the ridiculous can be incredibly entretaining. Even 4Lions shows (like the ones you mentioned) do best when they sort of embrace the camp flavour of the melodrama and don't take themselves too seriously.

@bold: Satya vachan! 🤣

Ooh coming to Kunal's journey, I really hope the CVs have more up their sleeves. The reason I am bothered by it is because I sometimes get the feeling that this is peak Kunal for the CVs smiley22considering how high a priority KuKu are for them. I just fear that they'll always give us half-baked KuKu and keep Kunal immune to Kuhu's problems.

So it hit me when we were discussing the post-visarjan hug scene the other day, just how long the journey between shaadi 1.0 and shaadi 2.0 was. I remember when that scene aired, I was like, oh Kunal is going to start realising Kuhu's importance in his life now and that did eventually happen but it took way longer than I could have imagined, with seemingly eternal gaps between one development and the next. It was torture waiting for it to unfold at the pace it did, but totally worth watching how Kunal eventually came around to his feelings and all the things that happened in the meantime -- baba's entry, the divorce papers, the leap, Kuhu's business.

I am holding out hope (maybe, actually probably in vain) that they will have a similar arc in this phase of the story that will only make sense and be resolved when the story reaches its next culmination point. Also, and this may be a reach, Abir tried to avoid choosing between Kunal and Mishti until Meenu made it an ultimatum about Kunal's birth truth. I am wondering if something similar will happen with Kunal because he is currently trying to avoid a situation where he has to choose between Kuhu and Abir (+Mishti by proxy). They may be building up to a situation where he'll choose Kuhu, because this is Meenu's plan to separate the brothers and show them how wrong there wives are anyway, but eventually the sisters will help the brothers reunite and prove her wrong?

at the current stage, it is almost impossible to imagine kunal choosing kuhu over abir

though initially I also had a similar theory that the brothers will separate, each choosing their wives over each other and then the sisters will unite the brothers

but I dont understand meenu's plan, I mean just to prove that mishku are not good for rjvs, she is willing to risk abhinal separation?

does she think that after separation she will unite them or the brothers will on their own realise that mishku separated them so they will agree that the girls are not good for them & then just divorce their wives?

meenu has risked so much to build the brothers as each others support system and now she is just risking all that hard work, sacrifices? or does she believe that their bond is so solid that they will come together once again by throwing mishku out of their lives?

Sam, I'm absolutely in love with the way you articulate your thoughts. I went back and read all of your posts on that thread you mentioned, and all I could think was "DAMN, Sam really really has a way with words." It's truly a gift to be able to express yourself with such clarity using language. Hugs!

I have to say, never have I seen an ITV show that has given me so much to think about. My interest in shows usually ended up fizzling out after the first 100 episodes or so, especially because of the plain black-and-white writing, with a clear villain and a clear protagonist. The only other *recent* show that really made me reflect on the storytelling was KRPKAB, at least when it came to the Dev-Ishwari bond.

We now regularly bash the writers for their clear manipulation to consistently over-glorify a specific set of characters, but I know for a fact that these writers have so much of potential. They knew exactly what they were doing at the beginning of the show with these characters, which explains why I immediately liked Kuhu from the beginning. In fact, in a lot of KaVik interviews during the time of the show's launch, it was frequently mentioned that this show will set the stage for characters that will be relatable to every family member. And that was definitely the intention. I just think they're too scared to do anything out of the norm, now that they have a devoted fanbase that is full of individuals that have been watching and loving the "stereotypical" ITV shows up until this point.

I started watching for Shaheer, I was excited that he was paired with Rhea because I watched her previous show on and off (my fixation with the Mittals, you see), I really liked the premise and the ensemble cast (Meenu and Parul!), and was so excited about the two couples as mirror images. But then the manipulative writing started taking over very quickly, and it became exhausting to watch a show that force feeds you its point of view.

I was on the brink of quitting after Kuku's shaadi, and especially after what they made Kuhu do at janmashtami (man did I write a long rant about that here) but then Kuku's story started in earnest and it became impossible not to stick around, just for them.

All that said, I have visited bits and pieces of the early episodes since, and man is Meenu sassy! I love her dialogues when Abir is confronting her about Ketki's shaadi and she is reminding him that he hasn't been home in 21 days. She tells Kunal something like, " isko family ki kitni chinta hai, ye chinta karne ke liye hi jaata hai." Savage. 😎

IKR! When I started watching the show from the beginning, I was amazed with Meenu and her characterization. She was savage!
