It was hard because for the most part, it was a pretty disappointing journey. I started watching for Shaheer, I was excited that he was paired with Rhea because I watched her previous show on and off (my fixation with the Mittals, you see), I really liked the premise and the ensemble cast (Meenu and Parul!), and was so excited about the two couples as mirror images. But then the manipulative writing started taking over very quickly, and it became exhausting to watch a show that force feeds you its point of view.

I was on the brink of quitting after Kuku's shaadi, and especially after what they made Kuhu do at janmashtami (man did I write a long rant about that here) but then Kuku's story started in earnest and it became impossible not to stick around, just for them.

All that said, I have visited bits and pieces of the early episodes since, and man is Meenu sassy! I love her dialogues when Abir is confronting her about Ketki's shaadi and she is reminding him that he hasn't been home in 21 days. She tells Kunal something like, " isko family ki kitni chinta hai, ye chinta karne ke liye hi jaata hai." Savage. 😎

Thanks everybody! 🤗 I am happy you all liked it. You guys encourage me so much.

I inserted the #balikavadhu bit 'cause I think Kuhu often has these punchlines, even in the midst of serious issues. 😉

Sam.. I went back and read that post. You are just amazing with words. Plus I'm impressed that you've got into so much detail into Kuhu's feelings right back then. To be honest I wasn't a big fan of her yet. I'm glad and honored to be a part of a discussion that includes people like you. *big time Sam fan* ⭐️

You know, I kind of appreciated how the Nagin phenomenon leaned into the absurdity of Indian TV tropes. They kept bringing these ridiculous supernatural tracks into their usual family dramas and it actually worked for TRPs so they made a whole genre of it! I can so respect when a genre is camp on purpose and doesn't take itself too seriously. The hypocrisy of these "social issue" shows that promote evolving forms patriarchy under a veneer of up-to-date wardrobe and dialogue are the ones that actually make me worry for society. 😕

Okay now, such interesting discussions happening the last few pages! I am totally with you guys in saying Kunal is not handling Kuhu has sensitively as she handled him, but I am still willing to see this as part of their evolving story. For Kunal, the surprise package in this relationship was Kuhu's unconditional love for him, and his unexpectedly strong feelings for her, but for Kuhu, the surprise was herself. Through this relationship, and especially when her love wasn't reciprocated, she learned just how strong and capable she was.

She came into the marriage expecting a fairytale love story, but in its absence, found herself building relationships in the RV parivar, holding them together when everything was falling apart, managing multiple conflicting relationships with sensitivity, and building a business from the ground up without upsetting her orthodox MIL. But it took a while for Kuhu to get from the first few days of marriage when she was openly telling Kunal she loved him, and blackmailing him not to reveal the truth of their relationship to a point where she had figured out her career and was emotionally distant from Kunal, ready to let him go if he didn't want her. It's early days yet for Kunal in this journey of accepting his love and need for Kuhu, which is why it doesn't bother me too much. I'm ready to wait.

Yes, the plot lines never die. SNS is ridiculous but it's fun because it's ridiculous. One of my Bulgarian friends watches it too 😆

Social shows were definitely hypocritical in that the FLs and MLs were as conservative in their behaviour as possible. The Naagin phenomenon is fun when the nagins patko people and hiss at the them but the tropes we discussed are still the same. On ITV, even naagins are sanskaari. You can be a naagin but then your biggest problem in life will be your saasu maa.

Ooh coming to Kunal's journey, I really hope the CVs have more up their sleeves. The reason I am bothered by it is because I sometimes get the feeling that this is peak Kunal for the CVs 😳considering how high a priority KuKu are for them. I just fear that they'll always give us half-baked KuKu and keep Kunal immune to Kuhu's problems.

Aww, thank you so much! 😳

I could not be more grateful to have found such a lovely group of people who actually enjoy and respond to my incessant ramblings! 🤗

I fell in love with Kuhu from the moment I saw her because she was like the anti-FL, always doing sensible things, speaking her mind, and diffusing drama. I was like, who is this unicorn and what is she doing in the ITV universe? 😲 Of course it didn't hurt that Kuhu came in a Kaveri package with that drool-worthy fusion wardrobe.
