Another thing I don’t understand is what do people mean when they say that some couples of low TRP shows ‘get more love’ than those of high TRP shows. On what basis? Online feedback?

People need to understand that majority of those who watch these shows don’t comment about them on social media. Generally actors with greater fan following tend to get more feedback online. But in reality their shows might get very low TRPs. This is because online thing is an illusion. Actual TV audience are so much bigger and tweeples often think that there is no world outside twitter.
So couples of high TRP shows are loved more which is reflected in their ratings. (For whatever reason that maybe)

On what basis are you judging the popularity? Higher TRP means more popularity. More people watching the show meaning more fans. Simple.

the high trp shows of those times were not focused on the couple.so the couples of less trp shows became more popular n won best jodi awards many times
