Anirudh and the price of revolution

Heavy is the flag of Revolution.

Anirudh could have lived a simple life. He was rich, educated and qualified. And unlike most people of that era, he knew and loved the woman his family wanted him to marry. However within one day, his life changed. His determination to not let an innocent 8 year old be a victim of social norms lead him to marry her on impulse. Within one night, he loses his love, alienates most of his family and gains an ignorant 8 year old as a wife.

Now, his father and brothers want him to kick her out, his uncle wants him to accept her as a wife, his love refuses to talk to him and Bondita is clinging to him as the person she can rely on in this unknown land. With so much happening, it is natural for Anirudh to feel overwhelmed and to lash out. That he is trying to come to terms with everything is evident. Even when he gets upset, he atleast manages to compose himself in front of the kids. However it is not going to be easy for him. He will have to deal with more emotional upheaval, more societal censure, and opposition not only from his family, but possibly Bondita too. Disillusionment, disappointment and compromises will come his way, but eventually, he will prevail, with Bondita by his side.

It is a long journey, but one I can't wait to see!

Thanks for reading.

Very nice postsmiley4

True its going to be very difficult for him and he has himself chose this difficult path. He could have lived an easy life but then his character is not like that. he couldn't have walked away seeing an 8 year old kid being burned alive. Even when he had left the marriage venue he was so restless in the car, the possibility that something bad could happen to her made him go back again. In an alternative scenario if he had just walked away, he would still never be able to live a normal life, the guilt that he let injustice happen to the kid in front of his eyes and did nothing would have eaten him up.

Exactly! His character is what made him choose revolution, but his age and upbringing have not yet prepared him for it's cost. Which is why he is acting so erratically, because he is still trying to come to terms with it with absolutely no support. However, his innate conviction remains and sooner or later, he will also find support.

This show is not only Bondita's or Rudhita's journey, but that of Anirudh as well, and I am glad that they are showing both the merits and costs of revolution. I want Anirudh there to be a stage where he is disillusioned enough to consider giving it all up. Because when he hits this rock-bottom, his eventual triumph will be even more satisfying.

He could have lived a rather happy and simple life but his ideologies made him. Chose a rather difficult path to live.. Now all his close ones are against him and much to add onto his frustation no one is even ready to listen to him.. But him being a a person with moral values and courage of fighting against all the norms of the society

He needs to join a reform group ASAP. Because more than simply social opposition, it is the loneliness that is eating him alive. If he joins one of the social reform societies which were prevalent in Calcutta at the time, atleast he will meet like-minded individuals who will support and encourage him.

@ bold- true, and i am glad they are showing his journey as well, his struggles to make others understand his POV, coming to terms with his changed life etc. In the heat of the moment, he married bondita ( not that he had any other choice) but later when he calmed down and returned to his home, the weight of what he had done hit him. And now nobody ready to understand him or even listen to him. i don't think he regrets what he did, but now everyone is shouting at him, ridiculing him saying he destroyed his life in obsession. I think right now he needs someone, anyone who would listen to him, understand him and assure him what he did was right. Maybe that's why he is going behind and wants to explain himself to mini as she is the only friend he has right now.

@Bold. Like I mentioned in the previous reply, more than opposition, he is plagued by loneliness. Half the people think he is God, the other half think he is Mad. He needs someone to connect to him on a human level as well. I hope they show a track where he joins a reform group. It will give him some like-minded friends.

Agree with you. It would be a good idea for him to join a reform group where his thoughts and opinions are appreciated and not ridiculed. Also i feel he needs to concentrate on his work and career too. It would have been a different story if he had planned going back to London. But he has come to India for good, so i think he should start to work now, because if he continues doing samajseva which his father doesn't agree with, one or the other day he will rub it in ani's face that he is living off his father's money.

Maybe he will move to Calcutta in the future. He can practice law, join a reform organization (maybe the congress) and will have more options to educate Bondita as well. In fact, a lot of the reformers and freedom fighters were barristers.

Very well said post

Anirudh needs someone like friend or guide was with whom he can share his sorrow and pain and that person can help him to heal his pain and help him to move forward in life.

He badly needs someone who understands his goal and helps him towards that goal with correct advice and give him advice regarding Bondita
