I also disagree about babita, she actually did let hs “handle” mini and also expected it and got angry at him when she felt he wasn’t being a “father” and disciplining her. The fact is he was her step father and not married to her mother long enough to become mini’s disciplinarian, yet babita wanted him to do it to replace Ashok. Neil has no say in the upbringing of Arya whilst being minis boyfriend. For whatever reason if mini and Neil were to break up and she ends up finding another boyfriend down the line, should he also handle Arya? It would be different if mini and Neil were married but while in a relationship I think there should be some boundaries. Arya is minis responsibility, not mini’s boyfriends.

I agree with you about the bf part but what I meant with letting Neil handle arya was after marriage as HS and mini shared a special bond when he was not married to babita but still HS did have say in mini's life and babita would get insecure with all this(I remember when babita lashes out at HS before holi episode when they were planning a surprise), it was after marriage when this whole awkwardness creeped in between mini and HS.

I agree as a bf Neil may not have complete say in arya's life but in later stages of MiNeil relationship Neil should handle arya on his own organically so that history does not repeat itself.

The awkwardness creeped in imo because 1, babita immediately expected hs to be minis father due to him being her husband (and as much as you want to be a father figure to someone it’s really difficult to be a complete father to an 18 year old who basically had no father all her life). And not only did babita want him to be a father, she wanted him to be what SHE thought a father should be (scold her, have authority over her etc.) and that’s not how hs saw fatherhood, so he had no idea what to do, and was caught between wanting to keep his new wife happy and being forced to be how he didn’t think it was right to be.

Right now it’s mini who needs Neil, not Arya. I would hate for mini to take that patriarchal mindset where she starts expecting Neil to scold Arya when she’s naughty for eg. As was shown when saroj interfered, mini and aryas relationship is still fairly new and limited by the “step” part. As much as they have a bond, it’s not strong enough just yet so I think mini needs to keep that separate from her relationship with Neil and keep Arya and neils friendship separate from mini-Neil relationship. When they marry them he can start stamping his authority over Arya (within limits). But he’s still always going to be just her step sisters husband so that too has to be handled with care

I agree after marriage there was way too much awkwardness between mini and HS because of babita and mini (it's a different scenario for an eighteen year old who has spent her growing up years without a father) who wanted more of a friend in HS which she had before marriage and it was difficult for HS as well cause he knew that what babita is asking him to do is not correct which lead to this awkwardness.

In case of mini and neil things will be different as arya is a five year old looking for a family, her relation with mini is still WIP and with Neil she has bonded with him really well but in the later stages Neil and arya need to build a different bond without being forced by anyone only then history will not be repeated, both mini and neil need to work together in this so that in future when anything happens arya does not seek comfort/advice elsewhere like how it happened with mini and babita both went to nayeem b and saroj for advice and we all know what happened.
