Women in Hindi Cinema Playback Singing

Today's women are handling producing directing, choreography, assisting, provide music and of course play back singing which goes way back to 40 and 50 era.

The first female singer in Hindi Cinema was Rajkumari Dubey. She started her singing career in 1940's became famous with her songs with mukesh in movie bawre nain and song from pakeeza najriya ki mari mari more saiyan. Female singers were very rare in that Era.

But today we have all the shows like saregamapa, amul voice and so many others which encourages girls from early age to start training for playback singing. Many parents dream and be proud of their daughters if they ever became successful. Singing has become a profession for women and talent is being searched and recognized . Parents are proud unlike old times when it was considered that women are to stay home and take care of house and kids.

Coming back to our female playback singers with 40-50's era came Nurjahan with a number like lari lappa, suraiya with a song tu mera chand mai teri chandani, Shamsaad begum with Leke pahela pahela pyar and kajra muhobbat wala ankhiyone me aise dala How can we forget those sweet, evergreen and unforgettable melodius songs. Geeta Dutt too joined bandwagon with her songs like Waqt ne kiya kaya haseen situm and mera sundar sapna tut gaya, babuji dheere chalna

How can we ever forget Lata mangeshkar who started her career copying shamshaad begum with a song like Hawa me udta jaye mera laal dupatta malmalka ho ji ho ji. She is called and awarded Nitingale of India Singing even today in her 80's. Sister Asha joined playback singing copying geeta dutt with the song like Bhanwara Bada Nadan hai. Where will our heroines like Helen and Bindu, Padma Khanna, Aruna Irani be without Ashaji? It is hard to say which made them more popular her singing or their dancing.

Then came singers like suman kalyanpur, kamal barot, meena mangeshkar and others . There contribution was not much though. The Lata Asha duo ruled over Hindi Cinema playback singing for years to come.

Then with late 70's came whole new group of singers like Alka yagnik with hits mere angne me, Ek do teen char panch, Sadhna Sargam with hits like pahela Nasha, saat smundar parse tere and chupke se . Anuradha paudwal with hits like Nazar ke samne zigar ke pass. dhak dhak karne laga and her devotional songs, Kavita Krishnamurty with song like hawa hawai hawa hawai, pyar huva chupkese ye kya huva chupkese and many other melodius songs.

Joined them in 90's and at the turn of new century are sunidhi chahuan with song Mast mai Mast, Bhage re man , shreya ghosal with hits like Bairy piya bada bedardi, Jaadu hai nasha hai and today we have so many new female playback singers joining us.

Thus women have made lot of contributions in playback singing just like other fields providing us with unforgatable melodius songs and made us dance, feel loved, laugh and cry with them.

A big surprise is coming within a day or 2 so watch out for it.😊😃

A: Career for singing is not for everone but for those
with beautifil voices and I have not such that
voice.

2. If you were given chance to sing with one of these famous singers how would you feel?

A: I would feel great but I wouldn't had accepted it
due to not having a nice voice.

3. Do you feel that singers get enough credit when the songs become overnight success and very popular?

A: Yes, they may get some credit for their song but not
the whole credit. The credit goes too to the
persons who made the lyrics and the most of it to
the composer who has done most of the job.

I would love to but i feel one should have a basic training of classical music which unfortunately i don't

I would really feel blessed and lucky to be given such an opportunity.

well...i feel overnight success is really shortlived.such singers get credit and money but unless they sing consistantly well they will be forgotten soon.the credit does go to the singer but definitely is shared by M.D and lyricist.

Itz a great form of art n career..Entertaining people when they r happy,soothing them when they r tense,make them dance to ur tunes,console them when they r sad(ya..dont most of us listen to sad songs when we r low)..it is said voices never die even after the death of a person..Playback is making ur voice immortal..As a career one may or maynot get paid high in initial stages but later people will pay u anything for the sheer respect u acquire in the profession through hard work n dedication..

2. If you were given chance to sing with one of these famous singers how would you feel?
feel on top of the world..It is a honor to share platform with someone who has brought respect to a profession(here singing)


3. Do you feel that singers get enough credit when the songs become overnight success and very popular?
Cant say..Some get n some dont..Also You need luck to sustain the success that you've got..But no matter what,if one is genuinely talented and is dedicated will get his/her due one or the other day even if the song becomes popular or not..Lataji,sonu,shreya r classic examples..
