Also the story of Mahakali.. she had to kill raktbeej who could only multiply and couldn't die.. every drop of his blood made more like him... MJ has that strength that multiplies..

Mahakali drank his blood to make him helpless and finally die.. but his blood made her strong and very crazy.. here Maya in trying to revenge MJ is turning up like him only..

Shiva watched all this and he thought she will calm down.. but then she dint and the only way left for him to stop her was come under her feet himself to stop her and calm her down.. Rudra cannot stop her from destroying MJ but he wont let her turn into the same.. he will have to come under her feet to calm her down some day..
