This, and Netflix, Hotstar, Hulu, Disney. There's too much content already available at the comfort of your living room. Who will take the pains to book a tickets, navigate through traffic, sit next to a stranger, bear their idosyncrasies, and spend more money! And worst thing is when a movie turns out to be bad, you can't fast forward. You can only leave but you won't get your money back. With streaming platforms, it's not like that.

Big screen cinema is soon going to die. Only time people flock theatres would be if some big movie with a grand scale like Bahubali or Ponniyin Selvan releases.

Naah, both Prime and Netflix still runs big in India because of their series, not original films. Theatre going audience is still going to theatres to watch a film because that's how they are used to watching. Who expected Tanhaji to do so good?

Tanhaji again offered that big screen experience with war and action sequences and larger than life dance numbers. The usual rom-coms and thrillers won't do well because people would prefer to watch them at home. That's why the trend of releasing these films like Drive directly on Netflix, because not many would have turned up to watch the film in cinemas.

And it's still in development stage only...soon there would be more movies being made too.

Although I feel soon the culture of a 2 hour film would die away and there would be more mini-series and series.

Pretty much. All these slice of life movies should be Netflix, amazon etc exclusives. Only big budget movies with A listers and huge canavas should be released in theaters. Let the best ones fight for audience's money.

Bala, Kabir Singh, Article 15, Chichore, Dream Girl, Good Newzz all did well despite not being festival films. The thing with movie watching in India is that it still is a community watching experience, be it with friends or family. Netflix or Amazon is still not a community viewing experience. Netflix toh doesn't even come in the picture because of it's high subscription rate but OTT like Hotstar and Prime survive on original series because these are shows viewers like to watch alone on TV which is still not the case with films. When it comes to films, for indian producers, OTT is a dumping ground for films they don't have faith on and nothing else.

Take all the films Netflix India is releasing this year as their originals. Not a single one of them appeals to the family audience much that would attract one full family to sit and watch it at home together. That's where theatrical releases score over OTT. Case in point, one of the biggest successes of Indian web watching is Gandi Baat because that's a show people can't watch with family and would like to watch alone on a phone.
