Rohit
"Ab tho batha do, Game kya hai?" Sonakshi dragged longingly. Rohit knew enough about his wife to know that he had her right where he wanted her. He could sense the neediness radiate from her.
"Kisne kaha ki ye ek game hai?" He asked cheekily.
"What? To phir ye kya hai?" Her eyes looked at him, dazed. Ajit and Pooja, who were watching from the sidelines, exchanged confused glances, for they too had no idea what was going on.
"Simple. It's going to be a coin toss." Rohit said, smiling at Sona first and then at Pooja.
"What? But this is a gamble!" Ajit said shocked at what he had just heard.
"Rohit kya tum seriously ye keh rahe ho ki agar tum haar gaye, hum bhabi ko yahi chodkar ghar chale jaayenge?" Pooja asked, dejected. She looked at her bhabi, who was looking as disappointed as she herself was.
"What? No way Rohit. Coin toss? Seriously?" Sonakshi asked.
"Ab tho tumhe ye karna hi padega Sona. You gave me your word. Aur haan. It's a coin toss, fifty-fifty chances hai but I'm confident ki main hi jeetunga" Saying so, Rohit took out a coin from his pocket.
"How do we know ki it's not a biased coin?" Ajit chirped. Sona too seemed satisfied with his question and looked at Rohit, questioningly.
"Kya Ajit! Kiske side pe ho tum?" Kamaal hai, mere apne bhai mujhe phasane meh laga hai thought Rohit.
"Sona ek coin do." He said, while putting his coin, which was indeed a normal coin which hadn't been tampered with, back into his pocket. Sonakshi immediately got out a coin and handed it to Rohit.
"Ab teek hai?" He asked, irritated with the fact that they thought he would rig the toss.
When no one else objected Rohit handed the coin to Pooja. He looked at Sonakshi and said, "When Pooji tosses the coin, you call out, heads or tails" he explained to her, but it was only his excuse to look into her eyes and talk to her. She didn't understand this, but everyone else did.
"I know how a coin toss works Rohit." Sonakshi muttered, while signalling Pooja to get on with it, who looked at Sonakshi first, and then at Rohit. When neither of them said anything, she flung the coin up in the air.
"Tails" Sonakshi called, as the coin was at it's highest. A few seconds seemed like hours for Rohit.
When Pooja finally caught the coin and revealed the face to everyone, Rohit heaved a sigh of relief, it was as clear as daylight, Heads.
Sonakshi looked disheartened, she felt like she had walked right into a trap, even though she knew that she herself had brought this upon her, and Rohit couldn't have done a thing. After all, the coin was hers. Looking at her all helpless and weary, Rohit decided to use this to his advantage.
"Look Sona, I'm a gentleman. I've come across a lot of young and helpless ladkiyan in my life," He said while stressing on 'a lot'.
"I never liked forcing any of them, and I wouldn't like to force you as well. You can back off if you like- I know you, very well in fact, I know that you won't be able to deal with this," He said, trying to sound innocent, while gesturing at his body. Rohit did know Sonakshi very well, he knew that she never backed off. He knew that what he'd done just now was no less than putting his hand inside a lioness' mouth but for some reason, he couldn't stop laughing.
Pooja and Ajit went pale looking at their brother laugh. In their heart, they were cursing themselves for bringing Rohit along with them. They could have come by themselves, they thought. Ajit glanced at Sonakshi, afraid of what she might say.
"Shut up Rohit! Mazaak hai kya? Hassi aa rahi hai tumko?" She barked, and when Rohit's laughter didn't show any signs of stopping, she continued.
"We had a deal Rohit! I'm not going to back out now! Main tumhari young and helpless ladkiyan meh se nahi hun!" She said, as her face turned pale.
"Chup karo Sona, you almost sound jealous! Koi dekh lega toh? We're on a break remember?" Rohit continued to laugh, as Sonakshi's temper continued to rise.
"Bhai ne to kuch zyada hi bol diya, Ab kya hoga?" Ajit whispered to Pooja, who was shocked herself, to see such a Rohit, unafraid and unapologetic even to the woman he was trying to win back.
"Bhaage kya?" Pooja whispered back. Ajit was just about to respond when Sonakshi turned around to face them. She didn't need to say anything for them to know what was coming, her eyes said it all.
"Tum log kya badbada rahe ho? You both don't think I can handle your brother?" She asked while pointing a finger at Rohit. Sonakshi was already mad and Ajit and Pooja had just added more fuel to the fire.
"Nahi Bhabi, hume pata hai ki aap bhai ko handle karlogi, we were actually worried about Rohit..." Pooja prompted, Ajit took the cue and nodded. In reality, Pooja didn't know who to feel more sorry for- Rohit or Sonakshi but this was enough to satisfy Sonakshi, who smirked at Rohit, as if to tell him no one's on his side, not even his siblings.
"Shut up both of you!" Rohit said, without taking his eye off Sonakshi, whose colour was slowly returning to her face.
"When do we start?" Asked a determined Sonakshi, while removing her jacket.
"Whenever you're ready." Rohit said, looking at her intently. Sonakshi clutched the jacket in her hands, almost as if she didn't want to give it away, but threw it towards Rohit at the end, who caught it gracefully.
"Kahaan ja rahi ho, Maine bataya nahi ki hum kahaan ja rahe hain" Rohit said when Sonakshi turned towards the gate, wondering if he had overdone things. All he wanted to do was use a bit of reverse psychology on her, he had no intention of hurting her, and if she hadn't said anything the next minute, he probably would have fallen at her feet and would have begged her to forgive him.
"Aww Rohit, you think you hurt me?" Sonakshi asked sarcastically as she studied his face, as if she had just read his mind.
"Don't worry. Like I said, I'm not one of your young and helpless ladkiyan. If you haven't noticed, it's freezing cold out here. The only jacket I had is now with you, I don't have my phone as well. I'll be back in five minutes." She declared. She was just about to leave when she added, "Raj would be worried." Sonakshi turned for just a second to catch the look on Rohit's face, when she had seen it, she smiled to herself and headed out of the park.
"Dd...did you guys hear what she just said? Did y..you see that?" Rohit stammered, as he watched Sonakshi leave.
"Aapne bhi tho kiya tha na! Ab pata chala... How it feels?" Ajit said, his words jerking his brother out of his stupor. Ajit was clearly disappointed with what he had witnessed, he had put all his anger on Rohit aside for the sake of bringing Sonakshi back, but he felt like Rohit had blown his chance again.
"I for one like it." Pooja smiled. "They're both playing hard to get, but the reality is that no one else can take either of their places. Not young and helpless ladkiyan and certainly not Raj." Pooja said, as she looked at Rohit, who gave her a proud grin, Pooji tu to badi chaalak nikhli, so I wasn't imagining anything, Sona did get jealous. Rohit thought to himself.
"Accha tell me one thing Rohit, how were you so confident with the toss? You wagered your chances with bhabi on a coin toss? That was so irresponsible of you!, didn't you think about me and Pooji?" Still not convinced, Ajit asked, as he looked at Rohit, confused and disheartened.
"Arrey shut up Ajit! I'm so tired of your bakbak. I wouldn't have left Pune even if I had lost!" He screamed. There, he had said it. Said it for everyone to hear, he was ashamed, but he was also relieved.
"I just said that to make her play..."
"I'm okay with breaking rules, I'm okay with her thinking that I'm a cheat, I'll do anything, take every chance, no matter how risky," A desperate Rohit said, as his eyes met his brothers'. Ajit was shocked to see such a frantic Rohit after seeing him all high and mighty just a few minutes back.
"But there's no way in hell I'm leaving that woman again" Rohit whispered, as he watched his Sona at a distance, walk back towards the park, and for a moment there, he felt whole again.
