Ashutosh Gowariker's historical drama Panipat hit the screens on December 5. The much-awaited project became the center of controversies even before the film's release. Initially, Bestselling Marathi novelist Vishwas Patil booked the makers of the magnum opus for copyright violation and now the Jats of Bharatpur, Rajasthan have opposed the film. As per a report by Times Now, the Rajasthani locals seem to be upset with the filmmaker for the wrong portrayal of Maharaja Surajmal in the film.
The film shows a scene where Arjun Kapoor as Sadashiv Rao Bhau seeks help from Maharaja Surajmal in order to protect the Maratha empire from the invading forces of Afghan. However, it was shown that Maharaja Surajmal demanded a few things in return and when his wishes were not granted, he refused to extend a helping hand to Sadashiv Rao Bhau on the battlefield. Many netizens are also protesting on the fact that the locals shown in the film speak Rajasthani and Haryanvi whereas they speak pure Braj language in reality and the angry protesters are burning effigies of the director.
Panipat is a battle story narrating the gory details of the Third Battle of Panipat fought between the Marathas and the Afghans led by Ahmad Shah Abdali, for the land of Panipat. Besides, Arjun Kapoor, Kriti Sanon, and Sanjay Dutt, the film also stars Mohnish Bahl, Nawab Shah, Padmini Kolhapure, Zeenat Aman and others.
