And the 21 crores was all because of Alia I assume. Ok you win. Just like in Kalank time. Alia gave the opening of 21 cr but solely Madhuri was responsible for it flopping. Or what was the other PR narrative nay hoax? Sona and Adi's come back flopped?

You're right. Alia gave the opening alone but the rest of the days...2nd day ..3rd day had been allocated to the others and they obviously came short.

No not entirely but yes one of the reason and when did i blame Madhuri or adi or sona for movie s poor performance it was you who was blaming alia for kalank s failure my dear so don't put that on me

Matlab if we have ro give credit for opening day collection it should go to the entire star cast but if we have to blame someday for flop it should be only alia. Wah re BWF teri leela aprampar

You see we can go on on and on this but fact remains and whether you like it or not but alia is a credible actor and star

Panipat was rumored to have gone over the budget. So they probably needed to release it on the slotted date. Remember, another Marathi war film Taanaji was coming right on its tail. So probably Ashutosh didn't get time to fine tune all the details and was in a bit of a hurry.I rather trust Ashutosh on the historical details and the lingo. But even he couldn't have predicted this amount of antipathy towards Arjun while he was casting.

As for the superstar -director conundrum, its impossible to predict exactly who comes on top. Stars have been known to make shoddy films from substandard directors a hit overnight just because of their star-power. In the same way, directors have been known to make superhits by casting rank newcomers. Depends on the audience.

@bold: 1: Well, they should !

I am getting fed up with any star acting all high and mighty! Seriously?? accept the director's vision or don;t freaking do the movie.

It's insulting to everyone- in the end- they become superstars BECAUSE of SOME good directors and SOME good movies.. not just because their acting or 'charm'.

@bold2; see, this is why I'm saying Ashutosh lost the plot : erred a lot, had no clear-cut brief to actors..or let them do what they wanted..or tried work with one take or whatever. Editing (I hear) is also sloppy in parts.

Dunno what he did but THE MOVIE has suffered because of these choices- and because of casting AK who hasn't had a hit since 2014.

How can you plan a successful movie with AK? How can you not push them to do more ESPECIALLY if you are AG, known for doing good emotional and battle scenes?

He literally ruined an otherwise well made movie...What can I say about him! 🤔

EDIT: also here is a proof to debunk the theory that the content is the king and the actors are nothing...Panipat is such a perfect movie but if only Ashutosh chose different and better actors for the main male leads!

He needs to start doing supporting roles . Audience doesn’t want to see his movies.

I don;t think he wants to do supporting roles, though.

I have the impression that many BW actors think of supporting roles in a negative connotation- correct me if I am wrong.

Mohenjodaro flopped pretty badly too with Hrithik Roshan. Casting Arjun was a big mistake no doubt. But it’s not fair to put it all on him. AG and the production made their fair share of mistakes as well. I haven’t seen the movie but the trailer had a moment or two where VFX looked cartoonish. People compared it to BM and said it had Bhansali hangover. So while the movie might have opened better with a different actor I think it still would have flopped.

Arjun needs to work on his body. He’s not a Rajkumar Rao or an Ayushman where talent alone can take them everywhere. If not supporting role then he should do two hero projects with a hit actor and get a few hits that way. All that being said, he’s Boney Kapoor’s son and Anil’s nephew. He’s not gonna be out of work for at least another few years.

Arjun moved away from the edgy, rough, young rebel with a cause type of character and into middle of the road, romcoms. Big mistake. He had oodles of charisma in Ishaqzaade and he's lost it somehow. Obviously the change in his physique has had a role to play in that but also he's played it really safe with his roles. He needs to do more grey shades, and maybe even an outright baddie. The audience might have an easier time liking him in such an avatar than a Panipat for instance.
